Recently, Saturday Night Live hosted a huge event that honored actors from the past 50 years who had been on the show. It was a legendary event that brought some of the best-known entertainers together to celebrate. However, did SNL knowingly put people like The View moderator Whoopi Goldberg in danger during their recent event?

Whoopi Goldberg Is Back On The View

Recently, The View moderator Whoopi Goldberg was absent from the table for an extended amount of time. During her week-long absence, Joy Behar stepped in to fulfill her moderator duties. Upon Whoopi’s return, she revealed she had an intense battle with illness. Notably, the panelists discussed that this year has been intense with all the bugs floating around. Whoopi made it clear that the flu was no joke. She said it was “really awful.” Her “bones hurt” and her head ached. She even laughably said the cat wouldn’t come near her. Even with the flu shot, she had severe symptoms. Likewise, she adds that many of her friends were experiencing longer effects. Notably, before she was struck down by the flu, she had attended SNL’s 50th Anniversary celebration.

She Wasn’t Alone

While The View moderator Whoopi Goldberg was seemingly star-struck during the big Saturday Night Live event, she paid the price. Even after taking a week out of her busy schedule, Whoopi still had a lingering cough upon returning. Likewise, after the gathering, Steve Martin shared on his Instagram that he and some of his good friends had contracted the “SNL 50 COVID-19 Curse.” Along with Steve Martin, actors Martin Short and Maya Rudolph also confirmed they fell victim to the spread.

Did SNL Knowingly Put People Like Whoopi Goldberg In Danger?

Undoubtedly, during SNL’s 50th Anniversary, the show drew in a huge crowd. Since it was spanning a long timeframe, the room was full of people from many different eras of the show. However, Colin Jost made a joke during the SNL Weekend Update that made recent activities seem a little eerie. In a sketch, he said, “Health experts are facing increased pressure this winter in the face of outbreaks of Covid, the flu, RSV, and norovirus, which they are calling a Quademic.” Undoubtedly, Whoopi Goldberg, 69, can attest that the flu has been horrible. Then, Colin adds insult to injury, “So we did the smart thing and packed every beloved entertainer over 60 into one tiny space.” Unmistakably, all of the listed viruses in the “Quademic” have higher risks for aging adults. Seemingly, by including the joke, the show was very aware of the danger they were putting people in.

  • On YouTube, one commenter said, “Haha everyone there got sick then.”
  • However, another fan thinks it is all worth the risk even for aging adults like Whoopi Goldberg. They said, “Humor is exactly the medicine we all need that helps us get through,& deal with all, this, craziness going on in the world& coming out of Washington right now.. I absolutely Love when SNL staff do all the political satire jokes, totally making fun of Trump & all his Maga minions craziness. It’s awesome & helps me not feel so angry when instead I can laugh at their stupidity.”

Most likely, attendees understood the risk factors and still chose to take their chances.

Do you think that Saturday Night Live put many people in danger? Should more precautions have been taken? Do you think it was worth the risk? After Whoopi Goldberg went through her sickness, do you think she believed it was worth it? Did you enjoy the SNL 50th Anniversary? Drop your comments below.
