Joy Behar Opens Up About ‘The View’s Toxic Work Relationships
Joy Behar, a longtime co-host of The View, has seen it all during her 28 years on the popular talk show. From sparring with co-hosts to navigating tough conversations about politics, Behar has certainly been through her fair share of challenges. In a recent episode, she reflected on her time on the show and discussed how difficult it can be to identify toxic relationships. Especially in the workplace.
Joy Behar Accuses Co-Hosts Of Being Mean
During a segment of The View, the hosts were talking about the toxic dynamics between characters in The White Lotus Season 3. The show’s portrayal of a group of friends who are hurtful to each other made Behar think about how people spot negative behaviors in others. She admitted that she has trouble recognizing “toxic” relationships because she had such a positive upbringing. As an only child, Behar says she was treated well by her parents. And never experienced the kind of mistreatment that might make someone more sensitive to negative behavior in others. She compared herself to Shirley Temple. The famous child star is known for her sweet image. Joking that she couldn’t remember anyone ever being mean to her.

However, Behar wasn’t entirely oblivious to conflict. She acknowledged that, unlike her, some people—like her friend who had a tough childhood. Are able to spot meanness in others because they have experienced it themselves. Behar’s point was that people who grow up in more challenging environments. Often develop a sixth sense for when others are being unkind or toxic.
Although Behar claimed she couldn’t remember anyone being mean to her in the past, her co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin quickly responded, “No one at this table’s been mean to you!” Behar clarified that she was speaking in general terms. Not about her current colleagues on The View. She then reminded Griffin that she’s been working on the show for nearly three decades, and during that time, not all of her co-hosts have been as easy to work with as those currently on the show.
Behar’s Positive Outlook On Current Work Relationships
This admission might not surprise long-time viewers of The View, as the show has seen its fair share of tensions and disagreements. Behar has famously clashed with more conservative co-hosts like Meghan McCain and Elisabeth Hasselbeck in the past. For instance, in a memorable moment, Behar criticized Carrie Underwood for performing at President Donald Trump’s inauguration. Hasselbeck, who was a co-host from 2003 to 2013, took issue with Behar’s comment, calling it “selfish personal publicity-gaining.” This was just one example of the kind of heated discussions that often happen on the show.

Despite these past tensions, Behar seems to have a positive outlook on her work relationships now. She mentioned that she gets along well with her current co-hosts, even though she’s had some rough patches over the years. It’s clear that Behar values the importance of trust and mutual respect in the workplace. While not every co-worker may have been easy to work with in the past, Behar seems content with the current dynamic on The View.
In the end, Joy Behar’s comments remind us that workplace relationships, especially in a high-pressure environment like The View, can be complicated. It’s not always easy to spot when things are going wrong. But trust and understanding are essential to maintaining healthy relationships. Behar’s experience shows that, despite challenges, finding a supportive and positive work environment is possible. Who do you think was mean to Joy Behar? Any of the current co-hosts?
