Good Morning America co-host, Robin Roberts just took a lifesaving journey down memory lane. She has been through a lot since she began on the hit morning show and her fans have been with her every step of the way. Now, she is sharing a very special milestone but what was it? Keep reading for more details.
Robin Roberts Takes Lifesaving Journey Down Memory Lane
It has been twenty years since Robin Roberts joined the crew at Good Morning America (GMA). She is a staple for viewers in the morning and they enjoy waking up to her daily. Her presence brings a sense of comfort and now, she has Michael Strahan and George Stephanopoulos by her side. It’s fascinating because if one of them goes missing, it throws off the whole dynamic and fans wonder where they have gone. Then, they are determined to find out when that member of the trio will be back. The worst is when all three of the anchors are gone.

Robin has taken time off over the last few years as she was wedding planning. She tied the knot with her longtime partner, Amber Laign in 2023 and they took cameras along for the journey. It was a magical time but what made it even more special was all that Robin had endured. In 2007, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to undergo chemotherapy. Five years later, in 2012, Robin was diagnosed with a bone marrow disease, myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). She was able to get a bone marrow transplant but had to take a leave from GMA.

When she came back, it was an occasion to be celebrated as she had overcome so much in her years. Now, according to Monsters & Critics, Robin Roberts was able to celebrate her lifesaving journey on the show. During the Thursday, February 20th episode of GMA, Robin talked about how she had returned to the show 12 years ago after her stem transplant for MDS. It was all due to NMDP (formerly Be the Match) and she could not be more grateful.
A Family Affair
Thanks to NMDP, a donor was able to save Robin Roberts’ life. In the GMA audience on February 20th were other donors. This included her nephew, Jeremiah. She noted that 70% of the time, matches are not family members but luckily, Jeremiah’s mother was a match, as Robin explained:
“I was very fortunate that my sister, your mama, was a match.”
Jeremiah waited some time but eventually, he did sign up to be a donor and Robin was immensely proud of him:
“It’s so good that you were vulnerable like that. Because that happens often, and so people need to know when you sign up and you’re on the registry that it is a commitment.”
Due to Robin being so open about her health struggles, so many people signed up to be donors which is brilliant. This will help those in need get a second or even third chance at life because of a selfless act.
Do you remember Robin having to take her leave of absence and the day that she returned? More so, did she inspire you to become a donor? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
