Gary Drayton Found Great Success Before ‘Curse Of Oak Island’

The Curse of Oak Island team has some very talented treasure hunters involved. However, one of the best of the best is a man who had a lot of success before he ever joined the team on the island. Detectorist Gary Drayton had already found hundreds of pieces of treasure before joining the reality TV show.
Here is what you need to know about treasure hunter Gary Drayton.
Gary Drayton Was A Treasure Hunter Before Curse Of Oak Island
Curse of Oak Island cast member Gary Drayton was born in Grimsby, a port town in Lincolnshire, England. This is where the treasure hunter found his love for discovery. He spent many years looking around the East Midlands for anything he could find. He found bottles, clay pipes, doll heads, and marbles (via HISTORY).

However, this soon led to bigger discoveries. While searching for treasure as a youngster, he found bottles dating back to the 1600s and clay pipes from the 16th century. He also found a perfume bottle from Roman Britain. This is what led Gary to take up metal detecting.
He used his first metal detector to find his first Piece of Eight, which is a Spanish silver dollar. The next thing he found was a piece of gold from the 1715 Treasure Fleet. This was just the start for Gary as he began finding some really old treasure and making a name for himself.
What All Has Gary Drayton Found?
Gary Drayton moved to the United States and began treasure hunting in South Florida. He started to find more and more valuables. He used his metal detector to find centuries-old coins, bronze ship spikes, war artifacts, and Spanish treasure. He also found contemporary diamond jewelry and Rolex watches.

These findings and his promotion of his discoveries led The Curse of Oak Island team to reach out and invite him to join the show. When asked, shipwreck salvager Bob Weller said that Drayton has three things going for him. He said Gary has patience, persistence, and perseverance.
To search for treasure, Gary uses several Minelab detectors to track down valuables. His favorite is the Excalibur, which hs still uses to this day. “As any long time Minelab user will tell you, the only way to beat a Minelab is by using another Minelab, so I always have other specialist tools in the old tool shed,” Gary said.
He also uses “twin optical scanners,” which he said he can use when searching for treasure underwater.
Of course, Gary also has a catchphrase, where he calls any new impressive treasure a “Bobby Dazzler.”
