For months now, Wendy Williams has maintained that she has been in a prison of sorts. It has been a nightmare and she has nothing to do and is literally going out of her mind. In February 2024, Lifetime released a two-part documentary revolving around Williams’ health. She had been on a decline over the last few years and stemmed from frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and primary progressive aphasia (PPA). Williams struggled to keep a cognitive thought and looked like she had been through the darkest and roughest of days. It was hard for anyone to watch.
She had always been sparkly, exuberant, and full of life. Now, she was at the bottom and fans felt she was being exploited through this documentary. Williams has also been under guardianship since 2022. It was court-ordered that Sabrina Morrissey watch over her but she was sadly put in a memory care facility. As of recently, TMZ aimed to blow the lid off of this and prove that Williams was fine, which they seemingly did. She wants to be free of a guardian and make her own decisions. Now, the reasoning behind her memory care placement has been exposed.

According to TMZ, the alleged reason she was put in this specific unit had nothing to do with her frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Rather, Wendy Williams allegedly was on the third floor of this facility. That floor allows residents to come and go. However, one day, she apparently headed to the top floor for lunch and supposedly got drunk. Therefore, the best solution at the time was to move her to the memory care unit on the 5th floor. This would keep her away from elevators so she could not dip out and have a drink.
Fans Want Her Back
After hearing all that Wendy Williams went through and that she likely does not have the original diagnosis, fans are riding harder for her than ever. They miss the old Wendy and what she brought to the television and the table. She was interviewed by TMZ via the phone while standing at her window and this gave her followers immense joy:
- She went through something and now she’s back. She sounds phenomenal compared to years ago. Give her freedom!
- She looks so good. She doesn’t look sick.
- It’s hard to get rid of a court appointed guardianship. This is sad!

As for how the inability to go to the restaurant was explained to Williams, she was allegedly told that it was closed due to construction. A room was not readily available in the memory care unit so she had to be guarded so she would not leave. However, an employee did share this:
“Wendy doesn’t have good and bad days. She’s the same all the time. You can tell her something today and 2 weeks later she’ll remember it. Her memory is fine.”
