Wendy Williams Shares Why Her Eyes Are Bulging Now

Fans of television personality Wendy Williams have noted a change in her eyes over the past few months. While the star has been the subject of headlines following her frontotemporal dementia, her eyes’ condition may be connected to an earlier diagnosis that star received.
Wendy Williams Had Previously Discussed Her Eyes On Her Talk Show
Wendy Williams is arguably best known as the host of her own talk show series, The Wendy Williams Show. The star retired from public life in 2023, following a diagnosis from aphasia and frontotemporal dementia.
Fans have noted a change as of late in Williams’ eyes, which appeared to be bulging in certain scenes and images. Williams herself has also touched on fans’ commenting on her eyes on her talk show.

As noted by Today, back in February 2018, Williams shared that she had been diagnosed with Graves’ disease on her show. At the time, she noted that she had canceled a few of her several shows, noting she was suffering from flu-like symptoms.
In a statement with Today, a rep for Williams claimed she had been dealing with the disease for “many years.” It was also noted the illness caused the star to take time off in both 2019 and 2020, following the revelation.
Williams also touched on fans commenting on the change in her eyes. At the time, she explained, “Graves’ disease squeezes the muscles behind the eyeballs.”

According To Williams, Her Fans Inspired Her To Get Herself Checked Out
As noted by a Inside Edition video, it was these fans who inspired her to get checked out. AS she noted on the show, “That is the eye thing that you have all been seeing. You caught it before I did.”
The publication also spoke with specialist Dr. Deena Gupta-Adimoolam, who noted “Graves’ disease is an autoimmune condition that stimulates the receptors on the thyroid gland to make more thyroid hormones.” She continued, “If hyperthyroidism is untreated, it can be life-threatening.”
As Gupta-Adimoolam noted, the disease is different for everyone and has different treatments, including medication, therapy, and surgery. According to Today, through the Mayo Clinic, this is caused by an “overproduction of thyroid hormones.” Symptoms include “an increased heart rate, sweating, weight loss, anxiety, hair loss, difficulty sleeping, and bulging eyes.”

At this time, Williams was placed under a guardianship following her diagnosis with frontotemporal dementia. The star is currently staying at a New York City facility.
However, as previously reported, the star has spoken out about her current situation. Speaking with publications like TMZ, ABC News, and the radio podcast series, The Breakfast Club, Williams has often compared her situation to prison.
