While this is an era of train robberies and heists, not all Hearties are too impressed with this mystery. The main reason is that this is not a Canadian story but an American one.

On Reddit, one Heartie wrote, “Canada has never had a double-eagle gold coin. Canada’s first gold coins weren’t even minted until 1912, during the Klondike gold rush, and they were $5 and $10 denominations. The U.S. has had double-eagles, but not Canada. So was it common to use American coins in Canada early in the 20th century?”

After Some discussion on whether American coins were brought into Canada, they wrote, “Is this just laziness on the part of the writers? And Bill keeps referring to a ‘great Canadian train robbery,’ but that was in 1904––before the supposed ‘double eagle’ coin in the show was ever made.”

Lastly, the dissatisfied Heartie found it hard to believe that “coin aficionado” Ned Yost, didn’t see the coin when payment was made for the hazelnuts.
