Jonny Fairplay of Survivor fame recently shared the news of his grandmother’s passing. This is notably as he infamously once claimed she had passed away years prior. In fact, the news came out over two decades after the original hoax.
Jonny Fairplay’s Grandmother, Ellen Jean Hauser, Passed Away At The Age Of 90
Fairplay is arguably best known for appearing on the Survivor competition series. Notably, he competed twice on the show.
During the seventh season, Survivor: Pearl Islands, Fairplay came in third place. He later appeared in the sixteenth season, Survivor: Micronesia, which saw him come in twentieth.

As noted by TMZ, Fairplay revealed that his grandmother, Ellen Jean Hauser, had recently passed away. Hauser died this past Friday at Embrace Hospice House in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Ellen was 90 years old at the time of her death. Her cause of death was given as kidney failure.
Fairplay once claimed that his grandmother passed away in 2003. He made the claim on Survivor: Pearl Islands to help advance on the show. However, the cast later turned he had lied after filming was over. However, the truth of the situation was immediately revealed to viewers watching the series at home.
As the publication noted, the series’ host, Jeff Probst, dubbed it “the greatest lie in Survivor history.” He later referred to Fairplay as “completely despicable” and “an absolute jackass.”
Reportedly, Hauser Had A Sense Of Humor About The Less-Than-True Death Reports
As Fairplay shared in a statement, “I’ll miss her every day. It’s easy to think she was just part of one of the biggest lies in TV history, which made me famous.”
“But I look at her place in my life as a loving grandparent who only wanted the best for me in my life. And she’d do anything to help me get it, which she did.”
Fairplay continued, “Her dying words were something like, ‘Jonny I want to see you on ‘Survivor 50,’ ‘Traitors’ and ‘Deal or No Deal Island.’ I had no idea she had so many streaming services.'”
Allegedly, Fairplay’s grandmother had a sense of humor about the situation in real life. Notably, she was reported to have a “Dead Grandma” vanity license plate.
