James Van Der Beek Reveals Family Member Had To Move In To Help With Cancer

James Van Der Beek of Dawson’s Creek and Dancing With The Stars is speaking out and revealing the family member that had to move in to help during his cancer battle. James is very thankful that he has the support he needs during this time. On his Instagram, he shared a very emotional message about what is going on.

James Van Der Beek’s Cancer Battle

Back in November of 2024, James Van Der Beek revealed that he was dealing with a cancer diagnosis. James is married to his wife Kimberly and they have six children together which makes for a busy home. He is suffering from colorectal cancer and at this time says there is reason for optimism. Hopefully, that means that James will eventually be cancer free, but for now, he is still dealing with it and leaning on his family and friends.

James has still been working on projects including stripping it down for The Full Monty, which raised money for cancer. He shared his emotional journey on this show. It was great to hear him open up and see that he is fighting hard.

James’ Shares His Dad’s Support

James’ post on his Instagram shares how great his dad has been in his time of need. He shared the following message:

Also born today… my Dad. The way you have shown up when I’ve been down and out this year – without us having to ask, without the expectation of even a thank you… has been not just life-saving, but life affirming. Moving onto the ranch for when I’m away for treatment. Making lunches, making fires for @vanderkimberly, driving kids, even taking care of the dogs and chickens (neither of which you ever wanted and would just as soon never have had 🤣).

But it’s even more than that. I’m blown away by how you’ve been there for me emotionally as I’ve moved through everything cancer brings up… I know it’s outside your comfort zone, but especially since Mom died, you have come through for me again and again and again in ways that I didn’t even know how much I needed.

Watching you evolve, seeing what kind of man and father you are… gives me more confidence in myself than I could ever express. I feel so proud and lucky to have come from you.

Thank you for being the best. Ever. Period.

And I will keep my promise that we won’t ever ask you to change Jeremiah’s diapers. 😘

I love you, Dad
