It has been over seven years since The Today Show terminated Matt Lauer’s contract after serious sexual misconduct allegations arose against him. When Hoda Kotb announced her retirement, some rumors indicated that Matt wanted to get his job back on the show. That didn’t happen, and he had no chance. However, one person thinks that Matt deserves a second chance.

Don Lemon recently discussed Matt, who he believes deserves a chance to return because “the public misses him.”

Don Lemon Thinks Women Want Matt Lauer Back

Lemon appeared on the Hollywood Raw podcast on Thursday and was asked about Matt Lauer. In a shocking moment, Don said that he feels that Matt should return and make his comeback. Don believes that, despite the sexual misconduct allegations, “women still love him.”

In the interview, Lemon said he has seen proof that “people love him” and “women love him.” He saw this in person while spending time with Matt and his partner, Shamin Abas. According to Don, many people approached Matt, saying they loved him and missed seeing him on television.

Don then claimed that fans didn’t want Matt gone. He argued that the people “inside the business” fear him. “Maybe there is a way that he’ll come back,” Don suggested.  “I think that if he could come back to digital, he can set his own course. I think the general public would accept —  just me —  would accept Matt back.”

Don also said that he connected with Matt after the situation occurred. He said that if Matt returned, people would watch, and “the ratings would be great.”

Matt Lauer Planning Comeback Despite Messy Exit

There have been many rumors that Matt Lauer is ready to return. A source said that Matt feels he was the victim and is “planning his next act, still very upset with how he was portrayed” (via Page Six).

This all started when former NBC employee Brooke Nevils made rape allegations against Matt. After this, Roman Farrow wrote about it in Catch and Kill, only for Matt to slam his reporting as “flawed.” Matt said he was surprised at the time that no one in the media was willing to challenge the accusations or the person making them.

However, Matt’s termination was not about a “rape,” but was instead based on a complaint that was serious enough for NBC to cut their ties with the former Today Show host. When they fired him, Lauer had been with the morning talk show for 20 years.

“I don’t know what everyone is so surprised by,” said one high-level industry source (via Vanity Fair). “This has been going on for months and months and everybody knew it and it was just going to be which girl came forward, and who reported it first.”
