‘Young & Restless’ Fans Say Sharon Is Hard To Watch Now, Why?
Viewers have seen Sharon Newman, played by actress Sharon Case, at the center of a shocking storyline on The Young and the Restless. However, some fans have felt that watching the character isn’t the same as it used to be. Taking to social media to discuss her ongoing storyline, the character also has had some defenders.
Sharon Case Has Played The Character On The Young & The Restless Since 1994
Actress Sharon Case is known for her work on soaps. Some of her early roles included work on General Hospital and As the World Turns.
However, Case’s breakout role had been Sharon Newman, originally Sharon Collins, on The Young and the Restless since 1994. Though she was the third actress to play the character, she would continue in the role for decades to come.
Sharon has recently served as the subject of shocking storylines on the soap. As previously reported, many fans began to fear for the character after being kidnapped by Ian Ward and Aunt Jordan. At the time, spoilers revealed at least one attempted escape would backfire as characters searched for her.
However, taking to the show’s Reddit page, many fans have shared that watching Sharon on the soap isn’t quite the same as it once was. As one fan wrote, “Why has Sharon become so hard to watch?”
The fan continued, “I can hardly stand to watch her anymore and I loved her! She is just so whiney and seems so odd when she talks anymore, it’s disappointing.”
Some Thought The Character Was Poorly Written, Others Felt The ‘Old Sharon’ Has Returned
Some fans were more sympathetic towards the character. As one wrote, “Her character is being put through the ringer…full of drugs off and on, kidnapping, hallucinations of creepy man she killed, and now being locked in a dungeon boiler room place for days and days…plus all of the other things that ‘should’ affect anyone.”
After a lengthy post, the fan noted, “I got so used to her acting a certain way that I wondered if we would ever see “the old” Sharon again, and I saw her! I love her, whiny, on drugs, back to her old self, all of her ways.”
While most fans were sympathetic towards Sharon Case, others felt the character was another story. Some felt the character was less to blame than the writing. Some of the comments included:
- “Thank you for saying it I don’t like to say bad things, but it’s almost cringe and hard to watch like I wanna fast forward. I’ve been watching this for a very long time and this is the first time I ever thought please no more Sharon scenes.”
- “I have reached the point where the writing of legacy characters is so bad I am struggling to enjoy characters I have faithfully watched for thirty years.”
- “She’s like a cartoon character these days. I’m also over the whole damsel in distress thing.”
- “I fast forward through all of her scenes. I just don’t care what happens to that character.”

I have never ever liked the character of Sharon. She’s way to whiny, poor me all the time, sickening!! I would’t miss her if she left the show for good!!
Sharon is a fantastic actress! She played her part very well and anyone who complains about her acting needs to go on a vacation for awhile. She is right on cue with everything and her part was a very hard one to portra
Don’t care for her character anymore. I am sick of her whiny, poor me attitude also.!! After she escaped from Jordan after being held captive since New Year’s Eve, it was totally unrealistic!! She would not even be able to walk after laying on a cold concrete floor for that long, with not much water or food. She certainly would have needed to go to a hospital. And also how convienient that Mariah found her right away after she escaped! The writers also need to clean up the story line as she implicated Daniel by planting Heather’s phone and bloody rug in his apartment. Also throwing Heather’s body into the river. Did she dream all that? Probably so as Sharon is always too perfect for me. Years ago she burned down Victor’s home and she did not get much punishment for that. If I remember correctly she went to a mental institution.
