‘Price Is Right’ Drew Carey Breaks Silence About Suicide Attempts

Actor and comedian Drew Carey is known for making people laugh. Most recently, he is known for hosting The Price Is Right. However, the star has also admitted to having his darker days, even admitting that he had attempted to take his life more than once in his life.
Drew Carey Became The Host Of The Price Is Right In 2007
Carey is known for his work as an actor, comedian, and game show host. In the mid-1990s, he became known for starring in his own namesake sitcom, The Drew Carey Show.
Carey would then become known for hosting the American version of Whose Line Is It Anyway?, an improv comedy show. In 2007, he took over from Bob Barker as the host of The Price Is Right.
As noted by Today, Carey talked to Access Hollywood’s Nancy O’Dell around the time he took on hosting duties for The Price Is Right. At the time, Carey was giving O’Dell a tour of the set.
O’Dell shared, “It does seem that you have the golden life.” Carey noted, “It is pretty cool. I have a really good life.”
However, Carey admitted life hasn’t always been so easy for him. As he noted, “I was depressed for a long time.”
Carey admitted that he attempted to take his own life through pills at two different points in his life. The first was when he was 18 and the second attempt was in his early 20s.
Carey Also Touched On What Helps Him Cope In Life
This caused O’Dell to reply, “You are so known for your cute personality and your funniness.” She continued, “It seems like so many funny people have a side that they’ve had to go through to get there.”
Carey noted, “There is a reason we want attention all the time. Living in Hollywood, you can get disconnected from everybody. You can feel like you are the only one.”
The star continued, “So you feel it, you hold it in and you don’t let it go and you don’t try to find help because you think, ‘Oh man if I tell anybody, I’m going to seem like I’m weak. I won’t get a movie deal. I won’t get invited to…’ whatever goes through your head.”
Carey admitted how he copes: “I learned how to believe in myself. Learned how to set goals, you know, self help books man. I just read every single one I can get a hold of and I still do. I read that stuff all the time still.” He continued that, “I am always coming out bigger, better, stronger and happier.”
