The woman explained how they got the ring to begin with. “The Delta queen was docking at the island harbor marina in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and we were docking our houseboat, and Mama fell in, and she couldn’t swim,” the woman said. “The undercurrent pulled her under, and she didn’t come back up” (via The Express).

She said they were all panicking and thought she was drowning. Finally, her dad and brothers all jumped in. The woman said she jumped in. They finally found her and pulled her back to the surface. She said her father was so upset that he sold their houseboat and bought her mother this ring.

“We used to always kid her, saying, Mommy, you’re wearing our houseboat,” the woman finished. “And we were just glad to have our mother safe and sound.”

The woman also said there was a funny story to the ring. She said her dad had a friend named Zappy, and his girlfriend was trying to get him to give her this ring. Zappy asked the woman’s dad to buy it so he wouldn’t have to buy it and marry the woman, so he bought it the next day.

How Much Was Ring Worth On Antiques Roadshow?

Sarah asked what year her dad bought this ring. The woman remembered it was in the 1980s, and her dad paid $5,000 for it.  The woman said her mom loved the ring and would show it off to anyone. She said her mom died about 20 years ago and she has been wearing it ever since.

Sarah said that it is a “spectacular and comfortable piece of jewelry. It’s platinum from the 1950s, it’s probably made right here in America.” She then said it was between 1.8 carats or a carat 80. She then dropped the big news. It was worth between $60,000 and $70,000. The woman joked she needed better insurance on it.
