Antiques Roadshow has a habit of shocking people with the value of their possessions. That happens with everything from heirlooms to paintings to comic books. In one episode, a woman brought in some old classic baseball cards. While most fans of trading cards likely know what they are worth, this woman was completely shocked when she heard their actual value.

Here is a look at how much the cards were worth and how the woman reacted.

Woman Gets Huge Surprise On Antiques Roadshow

A woman showed up on Antiques Roadshow when the series went to Green Bay. She spoke to expert Grant Zahajko, who was happy to see the pensioner show up with a collection of 1950s baseball cards. Grant said he loves it “when mom doesn’t throw away my baseball cards.”

The woman said that “she didn’t throw them away, which was unusual, because all of his friends that he grew up with, they either taped them to their walls or their mums threw them away.” She said, “Maude didn’t throw them away. She put them in a grocery bag, and we ended up putting them in our attic.’

The woman said that one weekend, her husband was gone, so she looked at the cards. She said she believed it was “a nice collection.” She then shockingly says that a tornado hit the house a month late. Everything in the attic disappeared, and the house was destroyed.

The miracle is that she had pulled them out of the attic a month before, and as a result, they were saved. She said she got it all organized and her husband had no idea that they still had those.

What Are The Baseball Cards On Antiques Roadshow Worth?

The woman then showed the cards to Grant on Antiques Roadshow, and he was astonished at the cards she brought in. There were three cards that stood out to him, and they were extremely valuable.

There was a 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson card. Grant called it the best-conditioned card of the three, and he ranked it a 6 out of 10. He said that the card was worth between $2,000 and $4,000. Up next was a 1954 Ted Williams card by Wilson Franks. He said there was slight staining on the back, which knocked it down. However, it was also worth between $2,000 and $4,000.

Finally, there was a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle rookie card. It was the worst condition, but it is a rare card, so he said bidding on it usually starts at around $5,000. “But that’s a must-have for any collector of Mickey Mantle baseball cards. That’s the iconic Topps rookie card,” Grant said. He said that card would pull in between $30,000 and $40,000.

“You’re kidding!” the woman exclaimed. “Seriously! Oh my God. He’s [my husband] going to be so happy with that.”
