Real Reason Tommy Chauvin Retired From ‘Swamp People’
One of the fan-favorite characters from Swamp People was Trigger Tommy Chauvin. He was part of the show since its inception with his stepfather, Trapper Joe LaFont. However, he has been gone for a long time now. Many fans might not know the reason that he left the show, but he really had no choice in the matter.
Here is what Trigger Tommy left the reality TV series and what happened to him.
When Did Trigger Tommy Leave Swamp People?
Trigger Tommy Chauvin had been part of Swamp People since the show started. He and his stepfather, Trapper Joe, had hunted together since Tommy was a child. They also had plenty of disagreements, mostly thanks to Tommy’s immature nature and his forgetting things on the job. Alligator hunting is a scary job, and it isn’t a place for people to forget important things.
However, Trapper Joe had to leave Swamp People in Season 6. This meant that Tommy had to grow up fast to handle things on his own, and he did better than anyone could have expected. Joe had to retire because he had developed a back problem. Despite that, he had taught Tommy everything his dad taught him, and it was time for Tommy to carry on the family legacy.
Tommy then moved to Violet, Louisiana, and he kept hunting in Seasons 8 and 9. However, Trigger Tommy had to retire after that last season from both Seamp People and alligator hunting.
Why Did Trigger Tommy Retire From Gator Hunting On Swamp People?
This was a job that Trigger Tommy seemed to love, and as Swamp People showed, it was a job he was good at. However, something happened to Tommy that forced him to retire from alligator hunting completely and, therefore, leave the reality TV show.
In 2019, Tommy had a serious accident involving explosives. He ended up rupturing his eardrums, damaging his eyes, and causing several abrasions to his chest and arms. He also had to have his right hand and thumb amputated after the explosion. He almost lost his other arm and had a GoFundMe set up for his surgery.
Although he raised only $2,940 of his $20,000 goal, he was able to get the surgery he needed and recover, regaining the use of his left hand. He even wrote a letter to thank his fans. However, without his right hand, he could not continue gator hunting.
He had to retire from the dangerous industry, focus on his health, and relearn his basic everyday tasks. The good news is that he has been able to keep a positive attitude despite losing so much.
