‘Y&R’ Camryn Grimes Talks Working With Ray Wise Again
Fans of The Young and the Restless recently saw Ray Wise return as Ian Ward. Having made his first appearance in years, the character was set to cause trouble in Genoa City. One of Wise’s cast-mates, Camryn Grimes, has recently spoken up about working with him again.
Camryn Grimes Went From Cassie To Mariah, Who Has A Past With Ian Ward
Camryn Grimes was originally known for playing Cassie Newman on the soap, having first joined the series in 1997. In 2014, however, she would also take on the role of the character’s twin sister, Mariah Copeland.
During her introduction, Mariah was hired to pose as her sister’s ghost. Soon, it comes to light that she is actually her twin sister. Ian Ward had arranged for her to be taken at birth, with him serving as her father figure.
With Ray Wise’s return to the soap, Mariah can now confront the man who stole her as an infant. Meanwhile, Grimes herself has recently opened up about what it was like working with his actor Ray Wise.
As noted by Soap Opera Digest, Grimes shared that, “Ray is such a wonderful man, first off.” She continued that, “He has had such a wonderful career, which speaks to all of his [real-life] qualities.”
Grimes noted she was looking at the reunion from two different perspectives. As she noted, “So seeing Ian come back into the canvas as a catalyst [for more drama] was really, really exciting to me, not just because of Mariah’s involvement with Ian, but from the perspective of being a fan of the show myself. It’s great when you have characters returning, but especially characters who really drive story for a lot of other people.”
Camryn Grimes’ Reunion With Ray Wise & Mariah’s Reunion With Ian Are Two Different Stories
The actress also shared how much she enjoyed working with Wise again. As she noted, “It seems like no matter what the project is, he is so invested and so present and he works really hard to have a great result. That’s just so enjoyable, you know?”
That said, Wise being so charming in real life can make playing off of him as a villain a bit of a challenge for Grimes. She admitted, “It is hard to [play] shocked or upset or angry at him because he’s such a lovely person! You’re facilitating this deep hatred [that Mariah has for Ian] but then you just look at Ray and you’re like, ‘Oh, right! You are lovely!’ But he’s so enormously fun to work with and I count myself extremely lucky.”
While Grime’s own reunion with Wise is a happy one, it’s a different story for their characters. Dubbing it a “shock,” Grimes noted, “I think Mariah well and truly thought that she had put that chapter of her life to bed and thought that Ian was in the prison system, so that was all taken care of and was not something that she was going to have to deal with again.”
“She has definitely moved on, and she has a very different and arguably more successful life and he’s found love and a family, but did she ever really face what he had done to her? Those are things that are going to come up with his reappearance — and, I think, very quickly answer that question.”
