New ‘Jeopardy!’ Champion Breaks All-Time Show Record
Laura Faddah is astonishing Jeopardy! fans with her winning streak. While viewers will have to wait until next year to see her try for her eighth win, there is one record that the champion has just set. However, what is disappointing is that this is not a record she likely wanted to break.
Here is a look at the record that Laura broke and why it is not a good thing.
Laura Faddah Has Lowest Earnings After Seven Wins In Jeopardy! History
Laura Faddah has seven wins in a row on Jeopardy! This is huge for her since she automatically qualified for the Tournament of Champions when she hit five wins in a row. With seven wins, only two people had won more games this season than Laura, and fans are pretty happy to finally see someone winning.
However, while she has won seven games in a row, Laura set a record for the least money ever won with that many victories. Despite winning seven games, she has not broken $100,000. Laura has won $87,400 after seven wins. That is only an average of $12,485 a win. Most of the winners this season break $20,000 per game.
No one has ever won seven games and not eclipsed $100,000 before. The second lowest winner ever was Tim Aten in 2016 when he won seven games for $107,499. He then lost his eighth game. If Laura loses her right game, she won’t break $100,000. She might not break it at her average until she wins nine games.
One reason Laura has such low winnings is that she plays cautiously. She makes low wagers on Daily Doubles and Final Jeopardy! clues. One example is that on Friday, she only had $3,400 after the opening round. However, by the time she hit Final Jeopardy!, she was at $10,000. She missed the final clue but won anyway.
Jeopardy! master champion James Holzhauer had 10 games where he won more money in one day than Laura has won in seven. In 2010, Roger Craig had won $100,000 after just two wins.
Who Won The Most Money This Season On Jeopardy!?
Heading into the post-season, Adriana Harmeyer has the most wins of anyone this season with 15. Her total winnings was $369,000. That is an average of $24,600, which is almost double what Laura is winning per game through her first seven wins (via Jeopardy!).
Survivor legend Drew Basile won seven Jeopardy! game this season, same as Laura. In his seven wins, Drew won $129,601, which is $42,000 more than Laura has won in the same amount of games. Isaac Hirsch won nine games and $215,390, which averages out to $23,932 a game. Every other five-game winner this season won more money than Laura has through seven wins.
