‘General Hospital,’ ‘Bold & The Beautiful’ New Year’s Day Schedule Update
It is almost New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day and with that, soap fans are questioning if there will be new episodes. General Hospital, Bold & the Beautiful, and Days of our Lives have released their schedules so what is the current status? Keep reading for all of the updates.
General Hospital & More Soaps New Year’s Schedule Update
Soap operas rarely take a day off or show repeats. It is an uncommon occurrence but it does happen. This tends to occur when there are special sports events or press conferences. Then, the soaps will get preempted, shortening the show week. However, when it comes to holiday weeks such as Christmas, if it falls on a weekday, a repeat will often be shown. So, what is happening now that New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day fall on a Tuesday and a Wednesday? According to Soap Opera News, there will be some repeats, starting with General Hospital.
On Tuesday, December 31st, an episode from August 26, 2024, will air in place of a new one. As for New Year’s Day, an episode from the following month, September 23, 2024, will air rather. However, new episodes are expected to resume on Thursday, January 2nd. The Bold & the Beautiful will air an episode from November 22, 2023, on New Year’s Day. Yet, there is no rhyme or reason as to why it is such an old episode. The Young and the Restless will follow in General Hospital’s footsteps with two days of repeats.
However, they are doing something fun and different. On New Year’s Day, an episode from 2006 will air. It will be from April 2006 so that is pulling one from the vault. Finally, what is happening with Days of our Lives? They are streaming on Peacock so essentially, they can make their own rules. Due to this, on both Tuesday and Wednesday, viewers will get to watch new episodes so that should make up for other shows airing repeats. Again, this is not something uncommon for soaps to do when holidays fall during the weekdays.

General Hospital, Bold & the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless will air new episodes again on Thursday, January 2nd. So, this is just a temporary situation. Unfortunately, with 2025 comes the end of an era for GH as Chad Duell will be saying goodbye. He has played Michael Corinthos since 2010 and abruptly announced his exit. As of now, there are no plans to recast the role and fans are desperate for him to not be killed off. Anything is possible but it will be sad, nonetheless.
