Hoda Kotb Breaks Down After Receiving Savannah Guthrie’s Gift

Hoda Kotb only has two weeks left before her time as a Today Show host comes to an end. That means that the tears are coming a little faster as the days close in. That happened again this week when the hosts had their Secret Santa gift exchange. When Hoda saw what Savannah Guthrie got for her, she quickly began to cry.

The hosts of The Today Show had their Secret Santa gift exchange this week. Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie, Carson Daly, and Craig Melvin were all invovled in the moment. There was one sweet moment that came with Hoda and Craig in the exchange.

Hoda gave Craig a New York Mets blanket. This caused Craig to hold it tight and say he will “treasure this forever.” The other hosts seemed a little confused at the significance, but then Hoda and Craig explained it. Craig is a huge Mets fan. Some fans might have wondered why Hoda was so outspoken in her cheering for the Mets this last season.

Hoda said it wasn’t for her. She was cheering for the Mets for Craig. She said it symbolized that she was also cheering for Craig to be her replacement on The Today Show.

“When Craig got this job, before anyone knew, Savannah, Craig and I knew,” Hoda said. “I said, ‘Since no one can know, Craig, the code I’m gonna give to you, is every time I think about it, is I’m gonna say, “Let’s go Mets.”‘ And so every time I looked at Craig and I said, ‘Let’s go Mets,’ he knew that I was cheering him on for this new job.”

Hoda Kotb’s Gift From Savannah Guthrie Broke Her

Right after the Craig Melvin gift, Hoda Kotb then opened her Secret Santa present. First, she pulled out a set ot wishing candles, which she seemed to think was a nice gift. However, Savannah said there was more in the bag to pull out.

Hoda then pulled out a small square with the words “May you find a light to guide you home” written on it with a heart. These lyrics were from the Josh Garrels’ song “May You Find a Light.” Carson told her not to cry on Christmas, but it was too late.

“It’s a beautiful song that Savannah gave to me every time I was going through something new,” Hoda explained. “Oh my God, it’s too much. Oh my God, the song.” Savannah said that she thought Hoda could put it on her desk for mornings when she is reading.
