Sean “Diddy” Combs requested that the courts allow him to use a laptop to help his defense plan his case. The judge agreed to the decision but restricted his use of the laptop. However, the judge later removed some of the restrictions, which angered some people.

Here is what the judge is allowing Combs to do and why people are unhappy with the small win for the accused sex trafficker.

Judge Allows Diddy Use Of A Laptop On A Daily Basis

When the judge originally allowed Sean “Diddy” Combs to have access to a laptop in prison, there were some major restrictions. He was allowed to use the laptop but could only use it in the video-teleconference room in the presence of other legal staff or the legal visiting room between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., but not both.

Combs’ attorneys said that no other inmates had these kinds of restrictions. Since he currently awaits his trial, his attorney wants him treated like any other inmate regarding computer usage. They also said that the timing meant that Combs could use the laptop or meet with his attorneys, but not both.

They also said that the jail had not given Diddy the laptop to use since the judge made the ruling. The judge finally gave in. Judge Arun Subramanian said, “The MDC is ordered to give Defendant access to the Discovery Laptop seven days per week from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM. This can be in his unit’s visiting room or in his unit’s VTC room.”

This was a huge move as it removed the strict restrictions initially placed on his laptop use. However, one restriction remained: Diddy could not use the laptop to “take or store notes.” The judge said the laptop was preloaded with discovery materials but was not functional beyond reviewing that material.

Fans Blast Decision To Allow Diddy Computer Time

This decision angered many critics. Several went online to complain about laptop usage, although many seemed to have no comprehension of what the judge allowed or what the laptop was capable of.

Here is a sampling of what many critics said about Diddy’s laptop (via Radar Online):

  • “This doesn’t even make sense.”
  • “Why on earth would you give Diddy a laptop in jail?”
  • “He will find a way to reach witnesses thru that thing.”

Regardless of one’s feelings about Combs having the laptop in jail, the judge clarified one thing many people seemed to miss. He can’t reach witnesses with the computer because it does not have internet access. The judge specified it’s only functional for reviewing material concerning the case.

  1. I can understand why people feel the way they do about Diddy having access to a laptop. However, even the worst criminals have a civil right to access their case materials. The judge threw in the safeguard that he cannot do anything but view materials on it!!! He can’t even take notes on the material he is viewing. He can read and look, that’s all. He can’t do no more than if it was a tv. At least with a tv he could change channels. This laptop has one channel, his case materials. No contact or communication whatsoever through this device. I’m not happy that he has the laptop but I understand, don’t agree but understand.

    1. He deserves to be treated fairly just like everyone else I didn’t think it was fair for him not to have access to anything pertaining to his case
