Dick Van Dyke Shares Escape From Malibu Wildfires
Legendary actor Dick Van Dyke has recently reflected on his recent escape from the Malibu wildfires. Through various outlets, the famous actor alluded to what helped him escape to safety. During the ordeal, he also shared that one of his pets had escaped, giving fans updates of the story.
The Incident Took Place Right Around Dick Van Dyke’s 99th Birthday
On television, Van Dyke is best known for playing Rob Petrie in his namesake series, The Dick Van Dyke Show. In films, he is also known for appearing in Mary Poppins, Bye Bye Birdie, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Van Dyke was recently forced to evacuate his home thanks to recent wildfires in Malibu. Notably, the incident took place around the actor’s 99th birthday, which fell on December 13.
The actor recently shared the trouble he had getting to safety during the ordeal with news outlets and on social media. He also notably thanked his neighbors for helping to save him.
As noted by People, Van Dyke shared that, “It was coming from the hill, you could see it,” in an interview aired on the Today show. He relayed, “And, oh my God, and we got out of here. I was trying to crawl to the car, I had exhausted myself, I couldn’t get up.”
It was then Van Dyke credited the neighbors who saved him. As he noted, “Three neighbors came and carried me out and came back and put out a little fire in the guest house and saved me.”
One Of The Actor’s Pets Also Went Missing During The Evacuation
The publication noted that the actor was also caught on footage taken from his Ring Doorbell camera. He could be seen leaving his property with his wife, Arlene Silver, and their pets.
On December 10, Van Dyke also assured fans that he was safe on Facebook. As he noted, “Arlene and I have safely evacuated.”
The actor also shared that one of the pets had gone missing. As he shared, “Bobo escaped as we were leaving.” He continued, “We’re praying he’ll be okay and that our community in Serra Retreat will survive these terrible fires.”
Fortunately, the actor later shared that Bobo was found safe and sound. He noted, “We found Bobo as soon as we arrived back home this morning. There was so much interest in his disappearance that Animal Control was called in to assist. But, thankfully he was easy to find and not harmed.”
As noted by People, Van Dyke isn’t the only celebrity impacted by the Malibu wildfires. Other stars who shared they were evacuated on social media include singer Cher and actress Mira Sorvino.
