Mikey Day Walks Off ‘Today’ Set To Show Solidarity
Saturday Night Live star Mikey Day was on The Today Show talking to Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager. However, after Jenna said something about Hoda leaving the show, Mikey showed shock before standing up and walking off the set. It was a shocking moment of solidarity for Mikey with Hoda.
Here is what caused Mikey to walk off the set and what happened next.
Why Did SNL Star Mikey Day Walk Off Today Show Set?
Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager were interviewing Saturday Night Live star Mikey Day on a recent episode. They spoke about several things, including his now viral SNLsketch with Ryn Gosling, where they dressed up as Beavis and Butthead.
However, when Jenna Bush Hager mentioned something about Hoda Kotb leaving the show next money, it took Mikey by surprise. When he showed his confusion at the statement, Jenna asked if he hadn’t read something about the news. Mikey asked when this news came out, and Jenna answered.
She said Hoda was leaving on January 13. Hoda corrected her and said it was January 10, which further depressed Jenna because it was “earlier than I thought.” Mikey looked at them and then stood up and walked off the set. As he left, he said, “I’m leaving too, then” (via Closer Weekly).
Jenna & Hoda Offer Mikey A Seat On The Today Show
Mikey Day returned as the two Today Show hosts laughed. Hoda said, “We need you, Mikey.” Jenna responded, “Mikey, there’s a chair open. Would you ever host a morning show?”
Mikey seemed happy about the idea and he began to sing a mock theme song for him and Jenna. “Are you kidding? Let’s do it! Jenna and Mikey!” he said. “[I’m] immediately thinking about my own personal interest. I’m so sorry. Are you going to have guest hosts?”
Jenna then explained how the show will run when Hoda Kotb leaves. It will become Jenna & Friends, and each episode will have different guests, many of whom will be on a rotating schedule. The network eventually wants to find a good permanent replacement, and this plan will allow them to test out several people.
“Well, I’m throwing my hat in the ring, producers,” Mikey said of the opportunity. He even said he would always sing if they brought him on, although he joked they would “be over it in 20 seconds.”
That ended the comments about that, and they moved on to talk more about his viral Beavis and Butthead sketch on SNL. Jenna said she attended that taping and called it one of the “most iconic” sketches in the show’s history.
