‘Today’ Hoda & Jenna Angry Golden Globes Snub Director Jon Chu
On Monday, December 9th the 2024 82nd Golden Globe nominees were revealed. During a live press conference hosted by Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut professionals from both film and television were celebrated for their outstanding work. Nominees will participate in the 82nd Golden Globes which will air on January 5, 2025, at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET on CBS. However, Today Show host Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager are upset over the lack of a specific nominee.
Hoda & Jenna Called Out The Golden Globes
Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager are major fans of the film Wicked. Kotb said the film was “unbelievable” and a “masterpiece”. Wicked did score some nominations on Monday. However, lead actress Cynthia Erivo received a nomination for Best Female Actor in a Comedy or Musical Film. Ariana Grande was nominated for Best Supporting Female Actor. So What are the Today co-hosts upset about?
Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager said they were “very happy for many” of the nominations. However, they pointed out the award show missed “one huge gap.” Jenna said, “In fact, if we could call somebody at the Golden Globes, we can’t because we don’t know anybody, we would be calling them right now, because what?!” So what is Jenna talking about? Kotb and Bush Hager think that Wicked Director Jon Chu should have been nominated for an award. Jenna said:
“The bad news that we’re very disappointed about is Jon Chu who’s the director of ‘Wicked’ [didn’t get nominated].”
The Ladies Think The Golden Globes Snubbed Jon Chu
Bush Hager praised Jon Chu for “going back to the olden times of Hollywood” as well as doing “everything he had to do to make (Wicked) as colorful and as beautiful” as it was. Jenna’s co-host Hoda continued:
“Because that was such a tricky movie to pull off because to make it something that was so incredible, it took the best director. I’m surprised, He’s going to get an Oscar nomination for sure … I mean, that’s a given.”
Wicked is a wonderful piece of cinematic work and it is sad to see that the director responsible for that is not going to be mentioned during the 82nd Golden Globe Awards.
