‘X Factor’ Contestant Claims Simon Cowell Ruined His Sex Life
Simon Cowell has always had a reputation for being a bit harsh with contestants on reality competition shows. He has softened up in recent years on America’s Got Talent, and he is almost like a different person now than he was on American Idol or X Factor. With that said, many people from that latter show still hold a grudge from a decade or more ago.
One former contestant even claims Simon ruined his sex life when he was on X Factor. Here is what you need to know.
X Factor Contestant Blasts Simon Cowell
In 2007. Sean Smith competed on Britain’s version of X Factor and he said that the appearance changed his life. However, he also said that it didn’t change it for the better. Sean competed alongside his sister Sarah in a pop duo called Same Difference.
They found some success on the show, and the two even reached the finals. They ended up releasing albums together and sold about half a million records during their 10 years as an active band. However, despite this commercial success with his sister, Sean said that his life became worse in other ways after his appearance on X Factor.
He blames Simon Cowell. “In Same Difference, I came across as asexual and ‘the protective brother’,” Sean said. “My friends got more girls than I did because of their association with me. I’d never had a problem with ladies before The X Factor” (via Radar Online).
He then said that people also noticed how Simon Cowell reacted to him. Cowell said the duo were “two of the most annoying people he had ever met.” Simon also cruelly said he thought they looked insane (“crazy faces”), and he “pitied” their parents.
“It felt like Simon had a vendetta against us and there was nothing we could do about it,” Sean said.
Sean Smith Wasn’t The Only One Attacking Simon Cowell
Simon Cowell has seemed to become a kinder and more compassionate person on America’s Got Talent. He is more tolerant of competitors and seems to even react a little more softly to those he doesn’t like. He seems content to not purposefully hurt people’s feelings now.
That is not how he was on X Factor. Katie Waissel and Rebecca Ferguson competed on the show and said that Cowell never cared about the competitors as people and only wanted to focus on the “exploitation and profiteering of young stars.”
Waissel also blasted Cowell after Liam Payne’s death. “We need only look at Simon Cowell’s recent interview with Steven Bartlett, where he admits his greatest regret was not owning the band’s name,” she said. “The real regret should be the failure to prioritize the emotional and physical welfare of the artists who put their trust in these institutions.”
