Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb were talking about who could step up and join The Today Show when Hoda leaves. They seemed sad at first. Hoda only has a month left before she steps down from her role as a co-host. However, Jenna continues to host with rotating guests until NBC decides on Hoda’s replacement.

While talking about replacements, Hoda felt that Jenna was slamming her. Here is what Jenna said and how Hoda responded.

Jenna Bush Shades Hoda Kotb When Talking Gayle King

Gayle King works for CBS, a network competing with The Today Show’s NBC. However, there are rumors that Gayle might not be re-signing with her network, which could allow her to leave CBS and possibly even join NBC just in time to replace a departing Hoda Kotb.

The discussion started when Jenna realized Hoda was leaving sooner than she had thought. When Jenna asked if Hoda’s last day was January 13, Hoda corrected her and revealed it was January 10. “Oh God, earlier than I thought,” Jenna said. Saturday Night Live’s Mikey Day was also there for the segment.

After Hoda leaves, Jenna tells Mikey a chair will open for a co-host. Mikey says it could be the “Jenna and Mikey Show.” Mikey then says he is “mad” that Hoda is leaving.

The conversation continued, and they discussed this weekend’s Saturday Night Live episode with Shaboozey as a musical guest (Paul Mescal as the guest host). Jenna then said, “Do you like Shaboozey? Gayle King loves Shaboozey.”

It seemed strange to mention the CBS host, but then Hoda Kotb explained the reference.

Hoda Kotb Responds To Jenna Hager Bush’s Comments

Hoda Kotb stopped the conversation right there to call out Jenna Hager Bush. “See what she’s trying to do? She’s shading me. She brings up Gayle 10 times on our show,” Hoda said (via YouTube).

When Hoda said this, Jenna explained that she had some “unresolved anger” issues concerning Hoda leaving the show. “I’m having some abandonment issues with her leaving, so today, Gayle King is the way I’m dealing with those,” Jenna said.

That caused Mikey to join in, and he suggested, “Jenna and Gayle.” Jenna then admitted there was a seat open, to which Hoda exclaimed, “My seat isn’t even cold yet!”

In August, the news broke that Gayle King was negotiating with CBS to renew her contract for the show, but things are not going smoothly. According to rumors, CBS is not sure they want to renew her contract because they are considering cutting some costs as their ratings have dropped in recent years.
