Real Reason Ryan Seacrest Broke Tradition On ‘Wheel Of Fortune’
Ryan Seacrest has his fair share of detractors on Wheel of Fortune. While he has been coming into his own as the show’s host this season, he has also made a few mistakes along the way. However, there have also been complaints that he broke a long-held tradition on the show. This turns out to be for a good reason, though.
Here is what Ryan isn’t doing that was once a tradition and the reason for it.
Ryan Seacrest Breaks Tradition On Wheel Of Fortune
Many fans have shown confusion at a change on Wheel of Fortune since Ryan Seacrest joined as the new host. The big change comes with the final spin. One fan asked, “Why doesn’t Ryan Seacrest do the final spin?” (via Reddit).
The OP was seemingly making a joke, but it fell flat. They wrote, “Shouldn’t it be tradition that the host do the final spin? I’m assuming he can’t reach the wheel?”
However, the reason for breaking this tradition had nothing to do with Ryan Seacrest. As a matter of fact, commenters on Reddit explained exactly what the person who made the thread has missed for a while.
- “Pat stopped doing the final spin a few seasons back.”
- “Pat did used to do the final spin, but that changed in S39, allowing contestants who had control of the Wheel give the final spin.”
- “Pat Sajak changed the rule like two seasons before he quit.”
So, as the commenters revealed, this wasn’t anything Ryan Seacrest changed. It was a change Pat Sajak made to allow contestants to have more control in their final gameplay.
Ryan Seacrest Still Trying To Win Over Wheel Of Fortune Fans
It really seems that Ryan Seacrest can’t catch a break with many Wheel of Fortune fans. Many fans will complain if he does one thing, and then if he does something different, other fans will complain about that. It will likely take a while before he can find a groove that gets people to stop talking.
There are fans who think that the entire show has become too “over the top” lately (via Reddit). “From the set, to the contestants’ outfits, and even the contestants’ behavior,” the OP wrote. “To me, it’s almost like they are actors. It feels unnaturally ‘extra’.”
Someone then mostly blamed Ryan, saying, “I was afraid this would happen after Pat retired.” They then said it is now overproduced and too full of “fake emotion.” They admitted they don’t want boring players, but it seems things are no longer “authentic.”

I have read all the Ryan doing so bad from Pat? I had never watched a show since Ryan took over until the other night. Made a poit to watch a show to see what all the complaints were about.
My personal oppion is i didn’t hardly see any difference to complain about anything. They almost act alike and wouldn’t have noticed an ounce of difference. Leave Ryan alone ! He isnt Pat! What do you expect. Do u act like your neighbor?
