Ray and her husband John Cusimano have been married since 2005 after dating for several years. Cusimano has worked as both a lawyer and a musician.

During the November 26 episode, she talked with guest Harlan Coben. As a writer, Coben is known for his work with mystery novels. Back in 2018, he made a deal with Netflix to adapt a number of his novels into films and series.

During the podcast, Ray and Coben talked about her choice not to have children. As she stated, “I love homemaking. I don’t have kids, but I love homemaking. I always found it so insulting when people say, ‘You don’t have children.’ So what, I make a nice home.”

This Wasn’t The First Time Ray Talked About Not Having Kids With A Guest

Ray then discussed how space is important to both her and her husband. As she shared, “John and I…We don’t have any children. We have one dog at a time, and that’s about as much as we can handle.”

Ray continued that, “But I love my life with John because we are 50/50.  She added, “He enjoys being on his own and I enjoy being on my own.” Noting that they often stay in “separate corners,” Ray noted earlier on the podcast, “I am wildly, wildly lucky that I have my husband. But he understands I need my space.”

As noted by Newsweek, this wasn’t the first time Ray talked about criticism on her childless marriage during a November 12 episode. At the time, she spoke with Biggest Loser host Bob Harper. At the time, Harper mentioned that he also chose dogs over children. Ray herself commented, “Me too, and boy, did I get bashed for it over the decades.”

Back in 2007, Ray also talked about her decision to not have children in a conversation with People. At the time, she noted, “I don’t have time. I work too much to be an appropriate parent.”

Ray continued, “I feel like a bad mom to my dog some days because I’m just not here enough. I just feel like I would do a bad job if I actually took the time to literally give birth to a kid right now and try and juggle everything I’m doing.”
