Sean Diddy Combs Will Remain Behind Bars, Bail Denied 3 Times
Sean “Diddy” Combs has been facing legal troubles since his indictment back in September. This past Wednesday, a federal judge has rejected a third attempt to release the mogul from jail on bail. The judge overseeing the case has also issued an order explaining the reasons behind this decision.
There Had Been Concern Over The Private Security Guards Suggested By The Bail Proposals
Since Diddy’s legal troubles started back in September, his legal team has offered various bail packages with the hope of placing the mogul under house arrest. These deals offered to put Combs under house arrest, with constant security and limited contact with the outside world.
On the other hand, prosecutors argued the government couldn’t trust private security guards to maintain justice. At the time, there was concern over the fact that they would be paid through Combs, creating a conflict of interest. Conversely, Combs’ legal team suggested being part of such a high-profile case would convince such guards to act as professional as possible.
Judge Arun Subramanian shared in an order, however, that prosecutors were able to bring evidence of Combs violating jail regulations when it came to his contact with the outside world. As noted by The New York Times, he wrote that “there is evidence supporting a serious risk of witness tampering.”
Footage Involving Cassie Ventura Was A Point Of Concern
There had also been concern that Combs could be a danger to others if granted bail, with arguments focusing on 2016 footage of Combs allegedly abusing his then-girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura. Judge Subramanian showed concern over Combs’ alleged “propensity for violence.”
One point of concern was a text message from Ventura reading, “I have a black eye and a fat lip. You are sick for thinking it’s OK to do what you’ve done.” Conversely, Combs’ legal team had tried to downplay the footage involving Ventura claiming key scenes were cut or presented out of order.
Since his legal troubles began, Combs has been detained at the the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. With a judge’s recent decision, it appears he will be staying at the center for the time being.
As previously reported, Judge Subramanian had rejected a proposal that would have granted Combs house arrest on a private island home. Since then, Diddy’s legal team proposed house arrest within a Manhattan apartment.
According to prosecutors, the investigation into Combs’ charges is still ongoing. At this time, Combs may still attempt to challenge this decision. At this time, Diddy’s trial is scheduled for May 2025.
