Clay Aiken Makes Rare Public Comments About Son Parker
Former American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken had an amazing career after appearing on the reality TV competition series. However, he left his singing career behind while he remained present as a dad to his son, Parker. While he stepped out of the spotlight, he didn’t talk much about his family in the press.
However, Clay is now speaking up about his son, and seems to be a proud dad. Here is what Aiken had to say about his son, Parker.
Clay Aiken Shows Pride In Son Parker
Clay Aiken was one of the most successful American Idol contestants in history. While he was runner-up in the show’s second season to Ruben Studdard, he still sold millions of albums and became a household name. However, he put his music career on hold when his son was growing up.
He also chose to keep his son Parker out of the spotlight, which Clay said was a great decision. “We did a very good job, I think, for 16 years, keeping him completely out of the public eye,” Clay said. “I wanted him to be able to grow up as normally as he could” (via E! News)
Clay and his friend Jaymes Foster are Parker Foster Aiken’s parents. While they were not romantically linked, they raised the son together, and Jaymes got pregnant through In Vitro.
Clay Aiken’s Son Makes Television Debut
Clay Aiken finally brought his son out and introduced him to the world on Celebrity Family Feud. Clay said, “This is my son Parker making his TV debut.” Jaymes was also on his team, while her brother, producer David Foster, was on the other team.
Steve Harvey teased Parker that he wouldn’t know what to do when the girls at his school saw this appearance on TV. The episode aired on August 6, and the other team had another American Idol alum, with David Foster’s wife, Katherine McPhee Foster.
After the appearance, Clay Aiken said, “That was his first time. I appreciate that he’s been able to have a normal — or as close to a normal — childhood, as he could.” While he was a major music star, and music runs in the family, Clay also said that Parker might not want to have a career in music.
“He’s had too much music in his life,” Clay said. “He knows what he wants to do. He’s going to go a very different way. I’m proud of him. I’m thrilled for him. He can sing, though, he just doesn’t want to.”
