Fans of General Hospital are starting to think that that might be seeing the end of Drew Cain on the soap. Some suspect that actor Cameron Mathison, who plays the character, might be busy with other projects. Some fans are taking to social media to discuss the issue.

Cameron Mathison Took Over The Role Of Drew Cain In 2021

Mathison first entered the world of soap operas playing Ryan Lavery on All My Children. Although he first started filming in 1997, his first episode came out towards the start of 1998. The character made his late appearance in 2011.

In 2021, Mathison took over the role of Drew Cain on General Hospital. He took on the role from Steve Burton, with the character previously being played by Billy Miller.

However, some fans are starting to wonder if Mathison might leave the show due to a career change. One fan on the General Hospital Reddit page, in particular, made note of the actor’s appearances in various Hallmark movies and similar projects. He’s also recently gotten involved with various Great American Family projects.

As the user wrote, “I thought I had read on here (possibly read it wrong) that he would be leaving GH to focus more on the Hallmark Christmas movies.” Notably, Mathinson has appeared in eight movies based on the Murder She Baked novel series for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.

Interestingly, the user noted disliking the direction the character is taking. As they shared, “CM is the only Drew I know and I understand why people don’t like him. But he is written so horribly now I don’t know how any actor could make him likable.”

“I find his scenes with Willow so revolting that I credit them with jumpstarting my weight loss. I literally lose my appetite watching them.”

Some Fans Think Mathison’s Contract Makes Allowances

Ultimately, the user wondered, “Does this move to Washington for Drew mean that CM is leaving the show?” Soon, other fans shared their feelings about the issue.

Some thought the character leaving the show might be for the best, considering how the character was now being written. As one user shared, “I hope he’s leaving the show. Can’t stand Drew anymore.”

As the user continued, “He used to be so above board and honorable, but these writers have turned him into a skeevy mess I’m no longer interested in watching. He brings nothing positive to the show.” Another shared, “I didn’t know if they were phasing him out by making him so unpopular.”

That said, another user suggested that the show probably already has plans to accommodate Mathison’s other projects. As it was noted, “I think (similar to Genie/Finola with vacations), Cameron has outs written in his contract to allow time off for filming other projects. Christmas movie filming in 2024 probably coincided with Drew’s prison stint.”

In addition to the Murder She Baked series, Mathison also has appeared in a variety of Hallmark and Great American Family projects. One such example included Home Sweet Christmas, which paired him with Candace Cameron Bure.
