CBS Replacing ‘Blue Bloods’ With Another Cop Show On Fridays
Blue Bloods is coming to an end. Not even the cast members know why, as they have argued that the show is as popular and successful now as it ever was during its run. However, CBS has said they felt the need to freshen things up on its schedule. That might make it seem strange that they are replacing the show with another cop show.
Here is what is replacing Blue Bloods when it comes to an end next month.
CBS Replacing Blue Bloods With Another Cop Show
Blue Bloods’ series finale is approaching fast. The final episodes of the beloved police procedural series will air on CBS on Friday, December 13, at 10/9c. That same night, the network will air a remembrance and look back at the popular series.
The network claimed that it needs to cancel long-running shows to keep the schedule fresh. Even though fans love the older series and tune in every week to watch them, the network wants to create shows for newer fans and hopes the older fans will stick around for what’s next.
In the last television season, shows like NCIS: Hawai’i, CSI Vegas, and Blue Bloods were all canceled. The network also canceled S.W.A.T. but backed out and allowed that show to have one final season before ending. That leads to the latest news about CBS on Friday nights.
After the show ends, S.W.A.T. will replace Blue Bloods on the CBS Friday night schedule. The final season of S.W.A.T. will start airing on CBS on Friday nights at 10/9c on January 31, 2025.
Tom Selleck Still Not Happy About Blue Bloods Ending
Tom Selleck is still not happy that his popular police procedural is ending. “I’m kind of frustrated. During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful,” he said (via TV Insider).
Selleck pointed out that in the 2023-2024 television season, Blue Bloods would have been the sixth most-watched show of the year if all football shows had been removed from the schedule. He said he wasn’t holding grudges, but it is hard to believe they will find a show that will remain as successful for as long.
However, with S.W.A.T., at least the initial replacement has a big built-in fanbase. While nowhere nearly as successful as Selleck’s hit show, it is a series that had just as ravenous of a fanbase. When Shemar Moore fought for his show, fans responded, and the network listened.
