Callie DeWeese, a Coast Guard vet of 22 years from Madison, Alabama, made it to the Bonus Round on Friday. She had won $14,719 in cash and a trip to Kauai. She chose the category “In The Kitchen,” which is a lot more specific than the difficult categories like “Phrase.”
However, things did not go well for her. The letters the show automatically gives all players are “R, S, T, L, N, and E.” After this, it offered up four letters of the two words, and the puzzle board read: “—-EN / S—N.” Callie decided to choose the letters, “KMHA.”
Sometimes, players don’t get many letters they choose on the board, but for Callie, it was the worst-case scenario. Not a single letter she chose was on the board, and she was stuck having 10 seconds to guess the puzzle with seven of the 11 letters missing.
Callie DeWeest Misses Wheel Of Furtune Bonus Round Puzzle
The Wheel of Fortune Bonus Puzzle was too much for Callie DeWeest to solve and she ended up missing it and not getting the big cash prize at the end.
She said, “Kitchen,” but couldn’t figure out anything else. The answer was actually, “WOODEN SPOON.” Ryan Seacrest opened the card and showed that she was playing for $40,000, which she didn’t win. “You didn’t have enough to get going,” Ryan said.
Fans at home agreed, and many of them felt bad for Callie. However, others felt that she just made bad letter choices, while even more said it was an easy guess (via TV Insider):
- “Feels like her letter choices were just wild guesses.”
- “I got it right after the RSTLNE’s came up.”
- “That was an easy one even with out her letters.”
- “There is one letter that Callie would’ve need it and that was a vowel of ‘O’s’ because there were 4 of them, that would’ve done it for her.”
