Machine Gun Kelly Joining ‘The Voice’ Alongside Gwen Stefani
The Voice has had some legends appear in the reality singing competition series, including Sting this season. Now, another big name is coming onto the show with Machine Gun Kelly. Here is what you need to know about the rock/rapper and what he will be doing on the series.
Machine Gun Kelly Joining The Voice
Some real musical legends have joined The Voice as coaches, mentors, and more. This season, Sting of the legendary band The Police came to the show to offer his seasoned advice as a mentor. Now, a much younger icon is joining the series.
Machine Gun Kelly, 34, is going to join Gwen Stefani’s team on Tuesday night to serve as her playoff advisor (via PEOPLE). It seems that the singer (also known as mgk) will be offering some advice to Stefani’s singers, including Jake Tankersley, which was revealed in a sneak peek.
“You have a good smile so maybe crack a smile on that and let people know they can be close to you,” Machine Gun Kelly said to Tankersley. “When you have any moment when there is no lyrics though, because there is so many words, step away from the mic and play your guitar.”
He also advised Jake to think about his wife and kids and get into the feeling to “bring the color to your life so its all feel.”
Machine Gun Kelly also asked Jake who he looked up to in the country music genre (Jake’s genre of choice). When Jake said he looked up to Johnny Cash, he said he should “do like Johnny Cash.”
Gwen Stefani Excited To Work With Machine Gun Kelly On The Voice
When asked about working with mgk on The Voice, Gwen Stefani said she was excited to get this opportunity. She said that he has a very unique identity and said the way he presents himself is “bold.”
“He has such an identity as far as self-style and the way he puts himself out there with his artistry and creativity. He’s bold,” Gwen said. “He sees things from a fresh perspective.”
For his part, mgk said he has wanted to work with Gwen Stefani for a long time in “any capacity.” On top of that, he loves the idea of The Voice, saying that “Dream chasing is so cool … If they don’t walk away with the win, they still walk away with knowledge which is also a win.”
The Voice airs on Tuesday nights at 8/1c on NBC.
