The luscious treat is a trifle-esque dessert with layers of sponge cake, Bavarian cream, and fruit. While Whoopi had trouble acquiring the heavenly dessert, she managed to pull it off and share it with the attendees. However, she notes, “Now, I should tell you, Charlotte Russe has no political leanings, and the place that made these refused to make them for me.” Not only was the audience shocked, but her co-hosts couldn’t believe it either. Sunny Hostin, surprised by the actions, retorts, “Oh, really?” Then, Sara Haines spit hers out in support of her co-host causing the audience to laugh.

She Wasn’t Letting The Setback Stop Her From Celebrating

Undeniably, the interaction left a bad taste in Whoopi Goldberg’s mouth. But she was persistent. She said, “They said that their ovens had gone down, all kinds of stuff, but folks went and got them anyway.” Since she had the tangle with the bakery, she decided to withhold their name so they wouldn’t get the free advertising. She adds, “Which is why I’m not telling you who made them.” She continued, “It can’t be because I’m a woman, but perhaps they did not like my politics.” But Whoopi wasn’t letting that stop her. She said, “But that’s okay because you know what? Listen, this is my mother’s celebration. Pick these up and celebrate with me and my mom. Thank you everyone for celebrating my birthday today.”

Did Bakery Really Refuse To Bake Whoopi Goldberg’s Birthday Dessert?

After Whoopi Goldberg’s claim that the unnamed bakery was personally attacking her, sleuths pinpointed the origins of the tasty treats. Instead, she admits “We were having trouble with our boilers.” Furthermore, she says the request was initially for November 6 and the birthday celebration, on November 13. In an effort not to disappoint with the finicky machinery, she said, “I didn’t want to make a commitment that I can’t carry through.” Reportedly, she expressed, “I said to Whoopi, ‘I can’t do it right now.'”

Attempting not to disappoint, she explains, “We have so many things going on with my boiler,’ because the building is from 1930, so, when she called me, I had no idea [if we could] be baking everything.” Likewise, she confirmed a woman came to pick up 50 Charlotte Russe on November 13. She says she was pleasantly able to supply the desserts even with the boiler issues. The owner also stated she didn’t know who the woman was.
