DOOL fans have been unhappy with the show lately, but Executive Producer Ken Corday encouraged them to be patient. He teased big changes are coming to the daytime drama. Keep reading for more details.

DOOL Head Writer Ron Carlivati Fired For Unpopular Storyline

Days of Our Lives viewers have stuck it out through a lot of crazy storylines, including Marlena (Deidre Hall) being possessed by the devil.. TWICE. But there is one recent storyline that fans just couldn’t get into. The Peacock soap did a ‘show within a show’ storyline featuring a fake soap opera called Body & Soul. The show used its current cast to pull double duty as characters on the fake soap.

In a recent red-carpet interview, Deidre Hall and Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie) addressed the controversial storyline. According to Hall, the Body & Soul storyline is “done,” and she speculated that the botched storyline was part of the reason Ron Carlivati was let go.

Carlivati served as the head writer for DOOL from 2017 until his firing earlier this year. He is among the scriptwriters for the upcoming CBS soap opera Beyond The Gates. The new soap will premiere on CBS on February 24, 2025.

Executive Producer Ken Corday Promises Big Changes To Long-Running Soap Opera

While Exec Producer Ken Corday didn’t confirm that the head writer was fired over the failed storyline, he strongly hinted it. He recently spoke to Soaps.com about what fans can expect from the show’s 60th season.

“We’re trying to root the show in much more of an interpersonal reality, with a return to romance and passion more than science fiction,” he said about the renewed focus of DOOL.

However, two of the show’s greatest love stories end in heartbreak in 2025. With the passing of Bill Hayes and Drake Hogestyn, the show had no choice but to kill off Doug Williams and John Black.

He Talks Difficulty Of Losing Drake Hogestyn

The loss of Drake Hogestyn was especially difficult for the cast and crew. He passed away unexpectedly in September after a private battle with cancer. His longtime co-star, Stephen Nichols, recently said that Hogestyn is still talked about daily on the set of the Peacock soap.

Ken Corday opened up about how the losses will be addressed on-screen.

“This has been a very, very difficult year, losing Bill Hayes [Doug] and Drake Hogestyn [John] within seven months of each other. That will drive us to do some very big shows toward the middle of next year. It’s difficult, but you endure, you move on and you see their legacy as their children and grandchildren move into the future.”

Are you happy to find out the Body & Soul storyline will end soon? Sound off in the comments.
