‘DWTS’ 500th Episode: Who Topped The Leaderboard?
Long-time Dancing With The Stars fans can hardly believe there have been 500 episodes of the spectacular show. More than anything, the cast and crew wanted to put on a memorable performance to commemorate the occasion.
The night featured plenty of great performances and surprises too. Former pro dancer Sharna Burgess even took part in the opening number, possibly leaving the door open to her return next year.
But when the performances were over, who earned the top spot on the leaderboard?
DWTS Season 33 Has Its First Perfect Score Of The Year
The 500th episode featured many memorable moments, including the first perfect score of the season. Disney Channel actress Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong have dominated the leaderboard since the season premiere, so few fans felt surprised to see them earn the first perfect 30/30.
They performed the Argentine tango to “Para Te” by Appart, inspired by Derek Hough and Kellie Pickler’s Season 16 performance. Derek even admitted he preferred Chandler and Brandon’s version to his own.
Plenty of viewers have called out Carrie Ann Inaba for underscoring the pair, but she happily awarded them a 10 for their iconic performance.

The Instant Dance Challenge Threw Competitors Off Balance
The Instant Dance Challenge is new to the show this year. And as viewers could clearly see, it was incredibly stressful for the celebrity contestants and pro dancers alike. Each team had five minutes to plan choreography for a randomly assigned style and song. Season 30 champion Daniella Karagach couldn’t help but hide her disappointment when she and Dwight Howard received the Paso Doble for their challenge.
Naturally, the spontaneous dances didn’t score quite as well as the individual routines. However, audience members enjoyed watching the teams think quickly on their feet.
But for one couple, even the Instant Dance Challenge couldn’t shake them.
Once again, Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong earned a 30/30 in this part of the competition. They improvised a Cha-cha-cha to “Apple” by Charli XCX. Even though Brandon admitted he wasn’t familiar with the song, he felt pleased with the results and the judges’ reactions. The pro dancer proudly admitted he never received a perfect score before. But on the 500th episode, he received two in one night.
With a 60/60, Brandon and Chandler took home the top spot on the leaderboard once again.

At the end of the evening, Dwight Howard and Daniella Karagach were eliminated, leaving the other five couples to advance to the semifinals.
