New Docuseries Dives Into JonBenét Ramsey’s Mismanaged Case
Netflix is unearthing the cold case of JonBenét Ramsey. In a new docuseries, they are diving into the mismanagement of her murder. Furthermore, they are following the evidence that was originally not examined.
JonBenét Ramsey’s Shocking Murder Changed The World
On December 26, 1996, child beauty queen, JonBenét Ramsey’s death shook the world. At that time, she was found murdered in the basement of her family’s home in Boulder, CO with evidence of sexual assault. During the infamous cold case, the focus was on her family during the initial investigation. Since the police were inexperienced and zoned in on proving the parents were at fault, they missed other evidence that was leading to an outside perpetrator. The new Netflix docuseries, Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey, will dive deeper into the unsolved case later this month.
Devasting Death
In the trailer, they mention a terrible lesson they learn about subjecting a child to pageantry, “When you dress your child up, you might innocently attract a predator.” JonBenét Ramsey’s dad, John Ramsey is still trapped in the nightmare of losing his daughter and being falsely accused of killing her. However, he shares that he and his wife Patsy Ramsey, who passed away from ovarian cancer in 2006, had to press on even after the ridicule and grief from losing JonBenét.
He says, “We recognized that we needed to live as strong parents for our children.” Undoubtedly, he was referring to the three children they were still raising after JonBenét’s devasting murder. He adds, “We still had three wonderful children that we love dearly and they were hurt deeply and needed us to be strong. That got us off the floor as soon as we could.” But his life was never the same with the loss. Furthermore, he works every day to fight to find her murderer.
New Docuseries Dives Into JonBenét Ramsey’s Mismanaged Case
Netflix has teased new information on the famous cold case of JonBenét Ramsey. On November 4, Netflix released a press description of the new docuseries. It states: “The Boulder, Colorado police, who had little practical experience in homicide investigations, quickly cast suspicion on JonBenét’s family as the most likely suspects, fanning the flames of media scrutiny and largely one-sided reporting, turning the case into a national obsession.” Furthermore, it said, “28 years later, that obsession—and finger-pointing—hasn’t gone away, and the murder of JonBenét Ramsey remains unsolved.” Additionally, the series will follow the early lead of JonBenét’s mother, Patsy Ramsey, who believed it was a kidnapping after discovering a ransom note hours before her body was found. Likewise, Netflix says the November 25 premiere of the three-part series will investigate “the mishandling of the case by law enforcement and the media.”
Surge Of Interest
When media outlets have reached out to the Boulder Police Department, they state they are unwilling to comment since it is an ongoing investigation. Recently, there has been a new surge of interest in the cold case. Undoubtedly, with 60 Minutes showing unfollowed leads and suspicions about the department’s misguided investigation, now Netflix and Paramount+ have delved further into the highly publicized case of little JonBenét Ramsey.
In the movie set to release in 2025, Melissa McCarthy will play JonBenét’s mother, and Clive Owen will play her father. With the docuseries and the movie that is in production, hopefully, they will help bring attention to the unsolved case. Additionally, it may prompt others to come forward with any information they connect with the new findings. Notably, Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold has previously stated the department is willing to continue investigating the case. Saying, “We will continue to pursue all leads and explore technology advancements to identify JonBenét’s killer.”
Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey? Will Include ‘Unprecedented Access’
Along with the trailer for Netflix’s docuseries, Director Joe Berlinger said there is “unprecedented access.” Likewise, he suggests there is “never-before-seen audio and video” about JonBenét Ramsey. Further adding, “There is more to this story and action to be taken to solve this case.” After the call to action, it adds, “It’s time to set the record straight.” Although JonBenét’s parents were under investigation, no charges were made in her murder. Additionally, her father, John Ramsey, claimed that the police didn’t test DNA found on a weapon used to murder JonBenét. On True Crime News in September, he said, “I don’t know why they didn’t test it in the beginning.” Following with a discouraging admission, “To my knowledge, it still hasn’t been tested. If they’re testing it and just not telling me, that’s great, but I have no reason to believe that.”
