Jamie Lee Curtis Talks Powerful Reason She’s Producing Movies
Jamie Lee Curtis is well-known for her work as an actress. However, the star has also been working as a producer on a variety of films. Recently, the actress revealed the poignant reason that pushed her to go in this direction with her career.
The Actress’ Latest Project Revolves Around A 1990s Fitness Icon
Curtis is the daughter of actors Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh. She rose to fame for her role in the slasher film, Halloween, a role she would reprise in multiple sequels. Since then, she has appeared in a variety of films, such as A Fish Called Wanda, My Girl, Freaky Friday, and Knives Out.
Outside of her acting career, however, Curtis has also worked behind-the-scenes, as well. The actress has also served as a producer on multiple films, including a few of the films of the Halloween franchise.
Curtis recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about what pushed her to move into the next stage of her career. During this discussion, Curtis talked about her work on an upcoming documentary, Stop the Insanity: Finding Susan Powter, concerning the eponymous fitness icon.
The actress started off saying, “I should’ve played her in a movie.” She continued, “I was thinking about it back in the day. I wasn’t thinking about it today because I didn’t know where Susan Powter was.”
“When she was in her ascendancy, I would’ve absolutely been the person you would’ve hired. I looked cute in a leotard, I had short hair, I would’ve cut it shorter, I’m brazen and bold, maybe a little annoying, maybe a little loud.”
Jamie Lee Curtis Set Up The Comet Pictures Label
The publication asked if she had pitched the project beforehand. Curtis admitted she wouldn’t have had the confidence to do so in the 1990s. However, realizing how much time we have in our lives convinced her to pursue producing the project.
As Curtis shared, “I only stepped into my own power as a producer when I realized I was going to die soon. When I turned 60 was a real turning point where I realized all of the things I’d been holding in my head, heart, mind, soul, spirit, and life force were going to die with me if I didn’t bring it out into the universe.”

This inspired her to create her own production company, Comet Pictures. As she shared, “That was my moment of truth, and that’s when I went to Jason Blum and said, ‘I want a production company.’ It has yielded quite well for all of us.”
