Maks Chmerkovskiy Defends Artem Chigvintsev, But Has Warning
Former Dancing With The Stars pro Maks Chmerkovskiy feels excited that his friend Artem Chigvintsev is no longer facing charges after his domestic violence arrest.
Immediately after California authorities apprehended Artem Chigvintsev back in August, Maks said he wanted to withhold judgment before he had all the facts. Although many insiders agree that Artem’s arrest and subsequent split from Nikki Garcia is largely a “he said, she said” situation, Maks is proudly sticking by his friend.
In a new interview, he expressed gratitude that Artem wasn’t facing more serious charges. However, Maks warns his former DWTS costar to be careful moving forward.
Maks Chmerkovskiy Warns Artem About Relationships Moving Forward
Most of the current DWTS pros have been largely silent about Artem Chigvintsev’s arrest. But since Maks isn’t on the show any longer, he feels free to speak his mind.
The father of three spoke with TMZ to discuss his feelings on his friend’s arrest. Overall, he wants this to be a warning to Artem and to other couples having problems as well.
“First of all, I think people need to learn to let go before it’s too late. And so the couples don’t work out. I think we live in a world where you know, you give it an honest effort and then you can still be happy going your separate ways,” Maks shared. “And I think that it’s one of the examples that we see. … And that he also gets a chance to clear his name and move on.”
The interviewer asked Maks to clarify his comments about couples letting things go before it’s too late. By that, the Ukranian dancer wanted to advise everyone to avoid letting toxic relationships get to a point where they boil over — especially if children are involved.
Artem Chigvintsev and Nikki Garcia share a four-year-old son, Matteo, who was at home during the arrest.
“If you have kids involved, just be sensitive to your children,” he continued.

Will DWTS Ever Invite Artem Back To The Show?
TMZ asked Maks Chmerkovskiy if he thought DWTS would have a place for Artem Chigvintsev in the future. The Ukrainian dancer seemed to dodge the question and ultimately said the show would do whatever it wanted.
However, DWTS didn’t invite Artem back for Season 33, which is rumored to have fueled his rage that led to the domestic violence incident in the first place. It seems incredibly unlikely that the network would want him back now.
What do you think about Maks Chmerkovskiy’s decision to defend Artem Chigvintsev? Do you agree with Maks’ advice? Be sure to leave your own thoughts and ideas in the comments.
