‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Fans Fear Schmitt Will Be Killed Off
Fans of the long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy are familiar with seeing characters get killed off. However, some evidence and recent events have got fans thinking they’ve already figured out the next character to meeting their fate: Jake Borelli’s Dr. Levi Schmitt. According to these fans, the show might be repeating its history with a story reminiscent of the Season 8 finale.
A Grey’s Anatomy Promo Is Giving Fans Déjà Vu
In the episode, “You Make My Heart Explode,” Dr. Levi Schmitt and Dr. Lucas Shepherd take a helicopter ride to pick up a young patient. The young girl’s condition worsens until she needs her leg amputated. At this point, the helicopter begins to crash as Schmitt and Shepherd are told they need to make an emergency landing.
Many fans compared the scene to the episode, “Flight,” in which a plane crashes carrying Meredith Grey, Derek Shepherd, Cristina Yang, Lexie Grey, Mark Shepherd, and Arizona Robbins.
The incident ended up claiming the lives of two of the doctors. Lexie dies early on. Mark died in the following episode due to complications.
Fans have commented on such comparisons over the two episodes online. As noted by Soaps, one user wrote, “I CANNOT do this again! I still haven’t recovered from season 8 finale!! I only watched that episode ONCE! Can’t watch this all go down again! Never again! Please, no!!!! Sigh!”
Fans Are Hoping For A Less Permanent Departure
Another shared, “What is it with aircraft crashes. We all have PTSD. Leg injury, really, crash, really, remember Arizona.”
Back in May, it was announced that Schmitt’s actor Jake Borelli would be leaving the series. Because of this, fans suspect the show is planning on a more permanent explanation for his character’s departure from the show.

As one user wrote, “That better not be how Schmitt does out!!” Another commented, “Wait, so is this how Levi leave, will he die?”
However, some fans suspect the show will find a less drastic explanation for Schmitt’s absence. These fans are hoping that Schmitt survives, but will be so injured that it impacts her career. This could keep him out of current storylines while leaving the chance open for the character to return.
According to Deadline, it’s believed Borelli’s exit from the show was due to financial reasons. The actor had appeared in the show since the 14th season.
As the publication noted, Borelli isn’t the only actor impacted by these budget cuts. Many of the actors staying on the show are expected to have a reduced number of episodes.
