Donnie Wahlberg Reveals ‘Blue Bloods’ Helped Him Get Married
Blue Bloods is finishing its fourteenth season, which is expected to end the series. However, the show would prove to leave a mark on the cast and crew who were involved with it. In fact, actor Donnie Wahlberg recently revealed the show helped him get married to his now-wife Jenny McCarthy.
Donnie Wahlberg & Jenny McCarthy First Met In 2012
Wahlberg first broke into the entertainment industry as a member of the boy band New Kids on the Block. Starting in the mid-1990s, Wahlberg also broke into acting with a role in the 1996 film Bullet. Before the decade was up, he also made a notable appearance in the film, The Sixth Sense.
In 2010, Wahlberg starred as Danny Reagan in the crime drama Blue Bloods. The actor would stay within the role during its fourteen-season run.
Recently, the actor revealed that the show helped him get married to his now-wife, Jenny McCarthy. They first met in 2012 when they appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. Wahlberg was on Blue Bloods at the time and McCarthy was a fan.
Wahlberg also appeared at PaleyFest with other members of the Blue Bloods cast. The appearance was made to help promote the show’s final eight episodes. It was there the actor explained how the show helped him in his relationship with McCarthy.
Wahlberg broght up an episode, “Greener Grass,” in which his character is offered a job as a security guard for one of his sister Erin’s witnesses and leave the police department. At the time, he didn’t think the episode was realistic. As he noted, according to Entertainment Weekly, “Who’s gonna hire me? I’m five foot nine.” Ultimately, he admitted, “It drove me crazy.”
An Episode Donnie Wahlberg Didn’t Originally Like Ended Up Paying Off
However, the episode proved popular with others, especially McCarthy. As Wahlberg noted, “When I started dating Jenny, she goes, ‘I’ve seen a lot of your show,’” Wahlberg shared. “She said, ‘You know what I really love is that one where you got the job offer to be a personal assistant. That’s my favorite episode!’”
Wahlberg made sure to thank executive producer Dan Truly for the episode. As he shared, “So thanks, Dan. You really helped seal the deal!”
