Initially, Mahomes Sr. cooperated with police, handing over requested paperwork. He could even be seen handing a can of Coors Light in the video. He then admitted he had a few beers. However, he remained cordial and polite, even during a sobriety test.

However, Mahomes Sr. began to stumble through the tests. One the police handcuffed him, his attitude began to change. Growing angry, he could be heard asking, “Are y’all serious?” According to TMZ Sports, which shared the video, he continued, “I’m supposed to be going to the Super Bowl to watch my son play football, and this is what we’re doing?”

Mahomes Sr. Claimed He Had Been Busy With Interviews

Once he was placed inside a squad car, Mahomes Sr. began making pleas to be let go saying his son was about to compete in a championship game within around a week’s time. As he shared, “My son is getting ready to play in the f***ing Super Bowl, OK? Just listen to me. I am not drunk. I promise you. I’ve had some drinks. But he can’t have this right now. Listen, this can’t happen.”

Minutes later, Mahomes Sr. claimed he was busy doing interviews for his son’s upcoming game. As he claimed, “Dude. This is crazy. My son is getting ready to play in the f***ing Super Bowl and I’m doing interviews — five or six a day. And then, now, this s***’s going to be on the news which is going to f*** with him, and it’s probably going to f*** him up.”

Eventually, the older Mahomes suggested that his arrest would negatively impact his son’s performance in the game. He claimed, “He probably won’t win the Super Bowl. But that’s fine. If that’s what y’all want to do, that’s good.”

Despite his pleas, Mahomes Sr. was eventually taken to a local jail. While there, he was found to have a BAC of .23. He was ultimately released hour later and was allowed to attend his son’s game. He was later charged with a felony count of DWI third or more. Eventually, he was sentenced to five-years probation. Reportedly, Mahomes Sr. shared with reporters that he “hasn’t had a drink since” the incident.
