‘Modern Family’ Julie Bowen Breaks Free From Claire Dunphy
When people think of Julie Bowen as an actress, Modern Family often comes to mind before anything else. Julie played the lovable role of Claire Dunphy on the show for 11 seasons starting in 2009. The sitcom is highly revered for being one of the most progressive TV shows in recent history.
Modern Family did so well that it earned tons of awards, including the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Here’s what Julie just admitted about breaking free from the role of Claire.
Julie Bowen Is A Great Actress Beyond Modern Family
While it’s true that Modern Family is a sitcom that will have a lasting impact on TV lovers forever, it’s not the only project Julie has shined in. Julie has proven herself to be a talented star who can pull off different characters believably, way beyond her time playing Claire on screen. Julie opened up to Yahoo! Entertainment to talk about the challenges she’s faced trying to move on beyond typecasting:
”I really love working, and I didn’t think that anybody wanted to see me do Claire Dunphy on a show that wasn’t Modern Family. I had to challenge myself to get out of that space and convince viewers to come along for the ride.”
What Acting Has Julie Bowen Done Since Modern Family?
The latest project Julie’s excited to be part of is a show called Hysteria! The thrilling show has only been around for one season so far, but it’s serving its purpose as an exciting segue for Julie‘s career. It’s set in the 1980s, telling the story of a small town dealing with some mysterious struggles. Julie spoke positively about the fictional character she plays in the show saying:
”[She] starts as a mom, and you think she’s normal, but then we take a real hard left turn. For the first two-thirds of the pilot, I thought the mom doesn’t get to have any fun — the kids have all the fun… but then I kept reading… It’s a show about what happens in a small town when everyone is getting misinformation and spreading it like wildfire. God bless Peacock for letting us take a really big swing.“
As Julie mentioned, Hysteria! is available for streaming on Peacock. Furthermore, other actors in the lineup alongside Julie include Bruce Campbell, Anna Camp, Nikki Hahn, Kezii Curtis, and Emjay Anthony.
