Elton John Gives Surprise Performance Amid Retirement

Musician Sir Elton John gave the world his farewell tour just last year. However, that didn’t keep him from making a surprise appearance at a concert in London. Naturally, John joined a famous singer-songwriter to perform a duet.

John is known for his prolific music career. Some of his more famous songs include “Bennie and the Jets,” “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” “Candle in the Wind,” “I’m Still Standing,” and “Rocket Man.” He is also known for his songs for Disney’s The Lion King, including “Circle of Life” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” which were written with Tim Rice.

The musician gave his farewell tour, “Farewell Yellow Brick Road,” named for his album, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” from 2018 to 2023. However, that did not keep John from appearing at and performing at a recent concert for a performer he recently collaborated with.

John appeared at a Dua Lipa concert at Royal Albert Hall in London this past Thursday. The two held hands, laughed, and performed their song, “Cold Heart” together. The song, which was released in 2021, uses the melodies of a variety of Elton John songs, like “Rocket Man” and “Kiss the Bride.”

During the final chorus, John could even be seen “conducting” the crowd. After finishing the song, Dua Lipa could be heard saying, “Well, how about that?”

John Performed Despite Recent Concerns Over Health Issues

The event was a one-off concert that highlight Dua Lipa’s album, Radical Optimism, and included songs like “Houdini” and “Illusion.” She also performed her song, “Dance the Night,” which was showcased from Greta Gerwig’s Barbie film.

“What a dream it is to be in this room,” Lipa shared during the show. The singer couldn’t resist making a joke, noting, “There have been so many notable figures on this stage, like Winston Churchill, Charles De Gaulle and Einstein. But I’m almost 99% sure they didn’t have a dress as nice as this.”

As noted by TMZ, John’s surprise appearance is notable because he had recently revealed undergoing health problems. Back in September, he claimed that he was recovering from an eye infection had greatly impacted his vision. The publication also noted that John discussed missing internal organs and needing joint replacements. However, none of these health issues kept him from performing with Dua Lipa.

As noted by the BBC, this was the second time Elton John and Dua Lia performed their song together live. Beforehand, around two years prior, they performed together at Elton’s final United States concert at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
