‘Today’ Hoda Kotb Sobs On Air As Last Day Draws Near
Hoda Kotb has had an emotional few weeks on Today. The beloved host announced her exit from the morning show in September and since then she has had several tearful conversations. Her latest was with actor Jason Segel, who expressed thanks for getting to know the Today host. Keep reading to see what made her tear up.
Jason Segel Brings Hoda To Tears During Conversation
Jason Segel appeared on Today this week and a post on Instagram showed a sweet exchange between the actor and Hoda Kotb.
“I’m gonna miss you when you’re gone,” the Shrinking actor said. “I just want you to know these interviews have been some of the best of my whole career, so I’m really grateful to know you.”
Hoda looked like she was emotional about what Jason was saying. Teary, she replied, “Wow, thanks.” Then she got up to hug the actor.
The beloved broadcast journalist announced that she would be leaving Today in September. Hoda Kotb has been with the network for 25 years and working on the morning show for 17. The announcement of her departure was made in a letter to the staff. She admitted she struggled to find the right words to say goodbye.
“I know I’m making the right decision, but it’s a painful one. And you all are the reason why. They say two things can be right at the same time, and I’m feeling that so deeply right now. I love you and it’s time for me to leave the show,” she wrote.
That day, she shared more details about her decision to leave Today. A huge reason behind her choice was that she wanted to be more present with her daughters, Haley and Hope. She said that her kids deserve a “bigger slice of my time pie.”
Hoda Kotb Is Looking Forward To This Next Chapter
Although the decision to leave after more than 20 years was a difficult one, Hoda Kotb said that she was certain she was making the right decision.
“I’ve kind of been contemplating, wondering, thinking about what I wanted this next chunk of my life to look like as I turned 60. And I like adventure, I like new beginnings. I’m a sunrise person and not a sunset person, and I was wondering, what does it look like for me?” she told People.
She also mentioned her daughter Hope’s February 2023 medical crisis, which also played a role in her decision to leave Today. As her kids continued to grow up, she wanted to be more present.
“It does make more sense to stay at NBC. I’m financially secure and I would have job security. I mean, why would you ever not do that? But I’ve been watching my kids and I was thinking to myself, I wonder what I’m missing?” she said of her daughters, who are in second grade and kindergarten.
There is no doubt that many people will miss Hoda Kotb on Today. However, she will continue to appear on the morning show through the end of the year. Here’s a look at her chat with Jason Segel.
