Will Savannah Guthrie Follow Hoda Kotb & Leave ‘Today’?
With Hoda Kotb leaving Today, the question is who will replace her as a co-host. There are plenty of good options, but now another question has come up. What would happen if Savannah Guthrie followed Hoda and left the morning talk show? There are rumors that this could happen.
Here is what we know and what could be next for Today.
Will Savannah Guthrie Leave Today Following Hoda Kotb?
Hoda Kotb is leaving Today because she wants to spend more time with her kids. There are other rumored reasons, but the only thing known is that early 2025 will be her final days with the morning talk show. Now, the question is whether Savannah Guthrie will follow her out the door.
There was something that Savannah said in a recent interview that has many fans thinking her time on the show is ending, as well. “We’re dear friends and we have a lot of similarities,” Savannah said (via Us Weekly). “We’re basically in the same phase of life.”
Hoda just turned 60 and has two young children that she wants to spend more time with. She has been with Today for 17 years and took over as the co-host after the network fired Matt Lauer.
Savannah, 52, has been with NBC for 17 years, starting in 2007 as a legal correspondent before joining the Today crew in 2012. She also has a huge support system at the network, with one source saying that “nobody at NBC wants Savannah to leave.” (via Page Six). “If the bosses had their way, she would be here for life.”
The insider also said that Savannah was considering leaving in 2025, but Hoda Kotb made her announcement first which makes it “all but impossible.”
Why Would Savannah Guthrie Leave Today?
With all these rumors, the question remains: Why would Savannah Guthrie leave Today? Like Hoda, Savannah also has two young kids (10, 8), and she might also want to spend more time with them while they are younger.
However, if the rumors about Hoda Kotb are true, there are other reasons for her exit. There have been rumors that NBC wanted Hoda to take a pay cut since the ratings for morning shows are down. If they wanted Hoda to take a pay cut, this likely happened to other hosts, including Savannah.
Also, Hoda is not leaving NBC and will remain with the network, possibly moving to primetime specials, which could keep her salary quite high. Savannah might have been looking at this. As the source said, she feels Hoda’s giving her notice made it harder for Guthrie to do the same.
