It takes a lot of courage to go on a game show. Your brains are put to the test, and if you mess up, the entire world will see. There are plenty of compilation videos on the internet where viewers watch contestants embarrass themselves. However, watching a contestant crush it is incredible to see. People like James Holzhauer and Ken Jennings have created cult-like followings because of their success on Jeopardy!. Fans thought a new icon would be coming soon, Mark Fitzpatrick. He was on an absolute heater on the show, but then, things went south. Fitzpatrick recently opened up about the struggles he faced while participating.

How Mark Fitzpatrick Felt About Being ‘Cocky’ On Jeopardy!

Fans got to see Mark Fitzpatrick for a special five-day run on the hit show Jeopardy!, before he had to pack it up. As is the case with plenty of successful contestants, Fitzpatrick noticed he was on a special run. However, as is also the case with tons of hopeful winners, it came crashing down… quickly. Fitzpatrick started the episode on Friday with losing $1,000, after messing up a Daily Double in the 18th Century History category.

He started from behind, eventually making his way up to $5,800. He risked all of his money on another Daily Double, which he also lost. Fitzpatrick went into Final Jeopardy with $4,800, a number that was too far behind first-place contestant Eamonn Campbell. The four-day winner ended his magical run by making more than $107,000. Not too bad for five days of work. Even though he was frustrated with himself for losing, Fitzpatrick was still a good sport, congratulating both opponents after losing.

Fitzpatrick talked about how he was a “hot mess” in an interview after the show. He mentioned that he started to get “overconfident” and “cocky” with the money he was wagering during the show. It’s impossible to know what’s going on inside the mind of someone who’s on such a hot streak like Fitzpatrick unless you’ve done it yourself.
