‘This Is Us’ Creator Dan Fogelman’s Plans For NFL Drama Series
It’s no secret that football is the most popular sport in the United States. In fact, football games, both college and professional, oftentimes take up roughly 90% of the 100 most-watched events in America every year. One of the main reasons folks love football is the simple fact that there are so few games. This creates more anticipation. Unlike other sports like baseball, basketball, and hockey, football seasons are only 17 games. The playoffs include a maximum of four extra games, which means the most any team can play in one year is 21 times. Up until now, there hasn’t been a drama series that surrounds the NFL. There have only been camera crews that follow teams around. All of that is likely changing in the near future, though.
Dan Fogelman’s NFL Series Has Been Given The Okay
Over the years, Dan Fogelman has become a household name in the entertainment industry. His biggest hit included creating This Is Us, a drama that revolved around different families and their children as they navigate life. The series won numerous awards, including the 2017 People’s Choice Award for Favorite New TV Drama. The show officially wrapped up after six seasons in 2022.
Since then, Fogelman has been working on another hit show called Only Murders in the Building. However, Fogelman knows there’s an appetite for football in the United States year-round, and he plans to fill that void. According to TV Line, Hulu has officially given Fogelman the green light to start working on a drama surrounding the NFL. The exact details of the show are still in question, but it’s been said that a family component of fictional NFL players will be a large part of the series. Fogelman will likely have to find various NFL players to interview and talk with to make the show as realistic as possible.
Will Any NFL Players Appear In The Show?
Since the upcoming series is set to take place in the NFL world, it’s fair to wonder if any players will appear as themselves, or other fictional characters. There are plenty of NFL stars who have made cameos in various TV series over the years. However, most of the time, these stars only show up once per season, as they have incredibly busy schedules. There’s a high likelihood that some retired players will showcase their acting abilities in the upcoming drama.

It’s also uncertain if the show will create a fictional league, or use real teams from the current NFL. The League is a former FX show that followed a group of friends and their fantasy football league. They used real players and followed the actual NFL season as closely as they could. Some players, like Marshawn Lynch, even made appearances. Fans are excited for what the future of the show will be.
