‘Blue Bloods’ Tom Selleck Talks Show’s Cancelation
With Blue Bloods coming to an end, actor Tom Selleck has recently talked about his feelings about the show’s end. The actor even gave a few hints at what his character’s final scenes will be like. He even discussed what his next project could be, following the show’s end.
Selleck Noted How The Show Managed To Prove Itself
Blue Bloods is an American crime drama that first premiered on CBS in 2010. The show revolves around the Reagan family who have a long history working in law enforcement. Tom Selleck prominently played family patriarch New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan.
The series’ fourteenth season had already been plagued by issues. Notably, both cast and crew took pay cuts to ensure the renewal. The season was also delayed by the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. A few months after the fourteenth season was announced, however, it came out the season would be the show’s last.
In a conversation with TV Insider, Selleck recently talked about the series’ cancelation, noting, “I’m kind of frustrated.” As he explained, the actor felt the show never got the respect it deserved from the network.
“During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for ‘Blue Bloods’ but about it still being wildly successful. In a Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024 (in total viewers, we were number 9 out of 100), if you discount the three football shows, we’re #6! I’m not going to turn into a bitter old guy saying, ‘Get off my lawn!’”
“I don’t believe in holding grudges, but if you were to say to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot you got, and it is going to guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would be almost impossible to believe. My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go.”
Selleck Is Also Interested In The Return Of Another Character Of His
Discussing his final episode, Selleck didn’t want to reveal too much of what would happen. However, he did reveal hist last scene on the show was a “family dinner.” He noted that was “also the first scene I shot on the show 15 years ago!” He also revealed the scene would be something of a Reagan family reunion.
While talking with the publication, Selleck revealed what he would miss the most: “The actors. The family of actors is as close as the Reagan family and the characters that they play. There’s isn’t a single one of them who didn’t want to come back.”
The publication also asked Selleck about his plans following the series’ end. In particular, he was asked about another Jesse Stone movie. Selleck noted, “Jesse is a great character.” Assuring it wouldn’t be a “final one,” he added he needed to “regroup” before working on such a project.
The series is expected to have its mid-season premiere on October 18, 2024. Blue Bloods‘ last episode is expected to air in December.

I love Blue Bloods. It’s a family show even with its violence. However, it also shows true family interaction and love. It appears the actors want to continue so what’s the problem?
CBS has lost me as a viewer. I guess I’m too old for their programs. Actually, the decision makers at CBS are so out of touch, it ranks right up there with “New Coke.”
