Country music star and American Idol judge Luke Bryan has upset fans during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show. During his appearance, he described what it is like going through all the auditions on the show. However, the appearance had cause quite a few fans to admit something they especially dislike about the show.

The Country Star Gave A Firsthand Account Of What Judging Auditions Is Like

Bryan is a country singer who has been considered one of the world’s best-selling music artists. Since 2018, he has also made a name for himself as an American Idol judge.

During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon commented that Bryan’s “been doing great on “American Idol.” He then asked if his work on the show got to him.

Bryan shared that, “I mean, it’s a lot of work. You have to listen to a lot.” While admitting to enjoying his work, he also acknowledged that it’s harder than it looks. As he put it, “Well, it’s still fun. I mean, the audition process is like 13-hour days. We wake up and we get there, and what people don’t realize is we do 35 auditions a day typically.  And, man, you can’t rush through them.”

The country star noted, “Sometimes they have talent, and you’ve got to work with them.” Realizing the phrasing got a laugh from the audience, Bryan explained, “And then they give you one little glimmer of, like, ‘Oh my gosh!’ And so you spend time with them.”

However, as noted by Daily Express US, not all fans found Bryan’s comments to be funny. One took to the American Idol Reddit page in a post entitled, “Luke Bryan’s recent interview of Fallon really turned me off.”

Fans Agreed On What They Disliked, Just Not Who Was To Blame

As the post read, “They were talking about the upcoming season and he said how Carrie Underwood is having a tough time hearing people’s underdog stories while Luke more or less says he’s completely immune to them now. Well, why do you interrogate the contestants so much at the auditions and dig into their personal trauma than?”

The post noted that it seemed like the show has gradually placed more emphasis on the contestants’ backstories. As it read, “I feel like they encourage the contestants to spill all their personal business in recent seasons and now hearing from Luke “yeah, I don’t really care about it.”

“I liked him a lot at the beginning of the reboot but he’s really started to turn me off last season and now hearing him say stuff like this. He seems kind of two-faced. If you’re gonna be cutthroat, at least own it like Simon did.”

Some of the commenters took to Bryan’s defense, blaming the focus on contestants’ lives on the producers or reality shows in general. As one user wrote, “You have to understand that Luke Bryan is just another player in their game. The producers are in charge of everything, the celebrities are just playing their part.”

Another wrote, “Well, for one, [it’s] the producers that interrogate the contests and make them dig into their personal trauma. And also i agree with [Luke.]”

On the other hand, another point of contention was that Carrie Underwood and Bryan will be judges together for the 23rd season. As some fans were concerned, it might put too much focus on country music on the show.
